5 Syndicate Thugs with AutoBlaster (Scum 100 point list)

Hello all!

I have been trying all of the new ships for Scum lately and have been enjoying and winning 4 out of the past 5 games with them.

I love the Y-Wings for Scum. Looking for thoughts on the following list:

5 Syndicate Thugs with AutoBlaster Turrets

Pros:

-40 hit point for the enemy to chew through

-Potential of up to 10 autodamage a turn.

-5 ships with 360 degree firing Arc

-5 Ship Build

Cons

-Lack of manuevering

-Turrets are only Range 1

What are your thoughts and suggestions or experiance with this list?

I've thought about something like this, but a few thoughts worry me.

You'll almost certainly need to fly in a pretty loose formation to try and force the opponent to step into range one of a ship or two. Flying in a tight formation is asking for more maneuverable ships to skirt along at range two or three, picking you apart. Against any large, turreted ship... yikes. Of course if you cast out your Y's like a net, you're probably not getting anywhere near as many shots in. Still, with smart flying and maybe some blocking, you could do some serious damage if you could manage to get at least three of those turrets aimed at one guy.

I think a better plan would be to drop a single Y, then give a pair of them ion cannons to play with. Then all four can also have unhinged astromechs to help make them more maneuverable, leaving you with another ten points to play with. You could throw on some bombs, maybe some engine upgrades for the Ys with the ABTs to help them get into range one, you could add some ordinance to help deal some damage at range three (and I never thought I'd suggest these things, but a pair of Ion Torpedoes could actually be amusing here)... you could even replace one of the ABT Ys with Kavil with the ABT and droid, leaving you with four points to play with (again, fond of EU on Kavil with the ABT!).

I think that will let you fly in a tighter formation, the higher range of ICTs over ABTs will make it more difficult for the enemy to avoid getting shot at, droids will help the Ys maneuver, and the ions will make it super easy to plop your ABT Ys right next to ioned ships. Because even in a loose formation of five ships, I can imagine an Engine Upgraded Dash Rendar simply boosting around the edge of the map while he grinds away with a HLC or Mangler.

Playing against this list at a SC I found it to be terrifying. It's a lot of points to chew through, yes, but its lack of maneuverability hurts it. The player whom I had the opportunity to play against ran this list, it was brutal but the lack of PS and maneuverability ultimately gave out on him. It is good for smashing turrets and IGs though, if you can get within range!

what about dropping 1 ship and putting EU on the remaining 4. along with the unhinged mech

I just don't find EU on PS 2 ships to be that helpful...and you really need some type of modification for your attacks via Focus/TL. I suppose you could chase faster ships but they will be able to react to whatever you do. It does make you a slightly better blocker, but I don't think it would help that much.

My suggestion is to drop TWO of the Thugs and put in 3 Binayre Pirates (36 points) one with a Hot Shot Blaster and maybe another with ID, or two Feedback Arrays.

The reason for this would be to fly the pirates in front of the thugs and try and get some key blocks to set up a focus fired ABT. Feedback Array is interesting here because you can use it while touching another ship, and hot shot blaster opens up some doors where you could move into position with a pirate, take a focus, and then shoot at a key target out of arc that the thugs got a hold of, potentially finishing them off.

I do like the Kavil idea though too, he is just a beast. And it makes sense to put engine on him. I feel he needs at least two blockers to go with him though and that just changes the list too much.

Wow guys thanks for all the input. I did think about dropping two of them to run a 6 Ship list with the z95s. Feedback os very nasty especially as blockers.

I have played Kavil in 3 games and done amazing with him.
