During the Marshalling phase, do I have to bring the card out of Shadows before I count gold?

Yes. The opportunity at the beginning of each phase to bring a card out of shadows happens before absolutely anything else, including counting gold.

And, Lars, we've always assumed shadows happens before dominance based on the wording in the rules document. I'll have to go look it up to give you an exact quote.

Correct.

Remember that cards are brought out of Shadows "at the beginning of any phase." So essentially, immediately after the "begin phase" Framework Action Window of each phase, there is now a pseudo-Player Action Window, limited to bringing cards out of Shadows. So the opportunity to bring cards out of Shadows happens after each phase starts, but before absolutely anything else happens. So counting gold in Marshalling and counting standing STR in Dominance will always happen after cards are brought out of Shadows.
