Advanced Sensor Action - help

By lo742, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Call me a newb but I am not understanding the Advanced Sensor card. It states:

Immediately before you reveal your maneuver, you may perform 1 free action. If you use this ability, you must skip your "perform action" step during this round.

Reading the rules for the steps you have Planning (setting your maneuver dial), Activation - revealing your dial and then perform an action, and the combat.

So in regular round after I do my maneuver I would perform an action. Doesn't the advance sensor do the same thing? Why would I use it as its not giving me an extra action?

Just trying to understand what the card is doing and 3pts is not cheap.

Thankyou

With the advanced sensors you can choose to do your actions before the maneuver.

You are able to do a barrel roll or boost first. This give you a bit more room for the maneuvers.

Or you can even do a red maneuver and dont lose your action. Because you are doing it ahead of the maneuver.

That makes sense, thanks.

To get an idea of what a powerful card this can be, take a look at the 2013 Worlds Final match with Paul Heaver and Dallas Parker

Advanced Sensors allows you to take your action before you move. Most action denial occurs from overlapping another ship.

Another neat trick is to combine it with Push The Limit.

So you take a free action using Adv Sens, then use that to trigger PTL and take a second action, then take stress, then reveal a green maneuver to clear the stress (just remember not to do that when you reveal a red maneuver.

Hey all, thanks for the help, video and suggestions. I will look into the card more :)
