What can we do when the spam bots attack?

By Marinealver, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Well the X-wing forums just got hit again. It is after business hours at FFG so it will likely not be taken care of until the morning.

I posted a thread about these attacks HERE since all of the FFG forums are begin affected by these attacks.

But this is starting to feel like Theed palace at the start of episode 1.

What the hell man? 2 different threads?

"What can we do when the spam bots attack?"

Answer: hit the report button on one of them and then ignore them. Adding additional spam threads to complain about them to us accomplishes absolutely nothing. It's the internet, these things happen. If the worst that ever happens is an occasional storm of spam bot threads I'll consider us lucky. I've known multiple boards that have had their servers crashed completely, been down for days or weeks, lost their entire archive of back posts, etc... There is nothing we can do about it except report them and wait.

(Of course, if FFG would appoint some responsible members as moderators then this would gave most likely been cleaned up already).

Punch your monitor. It always stops computer stuff from working in the movies.

Just wait it out. The internet is a broad place, go do some exploring elsewhere until the situation remedies itself.
Or, we could start a bunch of new PRODUCTIVE topics to bump them off the front page. As long as no one acknowledges them, we'll be fine.

Awww! But I like mocking the spambots!

I never did get my passport to Thyferra. Oh well, I hear it isn't much of a vacation spot....

now are they really spam bots? or just some poor sap that it's his job to create as many accounts as he can and post as much as he can manually.

The automated attacks are easy to catch on the back end via limiting new posts/topics based on how long someone has been a member and frequency.

FFG should include "Spambots" in their upcomming "End of the world: Rise of the machines" RPG.

Isn't there a way to spam them back with adds about webdesign so they can get their own site to sell their fake stuff and don't have to use our forum all the time?

And they are BACK again and with VENGEANCE!

Well , until the department of turn it off and then on again at FFG find a fix, it's now time to goof off and actually play Xwing,

Thank you spammers your all legends ,(sarcasm)

All I have to say is.....That is a lot of spam! I finally found the thread I was looking for, on page 203. Not saying it is still page 203, but that is where I was when I found real discussions again.

about 7 posts every 30 seconds or so, as it is likely now pat my second check point of page 217.

I counted the number of spam posts in a single minute by looking at the posted on time. There was 12 threads in a 1 minuet block.

It seems like I've missed all the "fun" this time...

I did it the old fashioned way. Changed pages, then went back to the original page, then when there were 7 new posts, and it took about 30 seconds to do, then extrapolate by the time allotted. Of course your way is more accurate.

Why did my browser decide to put the quote below my response?
