Teamwork Combat?

By kookoobah, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I'm interested in having players actually team up to fight monsters. I think it would be cool if investigators can all go to the same location and team up to kill the monsters.

I'm thinking each investigator rolls for horror check separately, then combat check they will check how much dice each will roll after factoring in the monster's combat rating, rolling all those dice in one big attack. It adds a lot more teamwork feel to the game, but it might make it too easy. Of course this means that we'd move combat to the end of everyone's movement phases.

Obviously, this would be a house rule. I was just thinking of ways to make it work.

Do the monsters team up too? Should make monster surges with only one two gates on the board interesting.

Ok Leo and Willy you have 5 fight a rifle and a .45 auto between you, 14 dice, that's not bad now lemme see: you only need to overcome 15 toughness and get hit for 15 blood drops if you fail. Good luck. You might want to yuse that clue that Leo has. gran_risa.gif

Yeah, now we're talking. Don't forget dimensional bonus if 2 or more monsters in that spot have the same symbol gran_risa.gif ! And if things go badly and you want to Evade, all the monsters add their Awareness vs the investigators' total Evade cool.gif .

Average or minimum evade, surely? Unless the monsters are sufficiently stupid as to not notice an Investigator they could spot because they're hiding behind an Investigator they couldn't. (I admit, some of the +1 awareness monsters probably are that stupid)

This was discussed a bit in the old forums. The link is here.

Hi Kookoobah,

In retrospect I may have sounded more sarcastic than I intended. I didn't mean to come across as offhand (and I think the idea on the monsters teaming up is funny) . I think many people will have thought the same thought as you er, thunked (?).

And avec has pointed out a link to an old discussion (surely their should be an official link to the earlier forum as read only somewhere as a sticky?). Teaming up appears to make sense, particularly against the likes of the Dunwich Horror, but I think there are probably too many likely glitches and that it would probably make the game too easy.
