I have 3rd edition. Is 4th worth getting?

By muaddib33, in Talisman

My son and I play my old 3rd edition Talisman with all the expansions. Does anyone have any compelling reason to get the newest version? Are there plans for lots of expansions since FFG owns it now. They seem to like to do that which I am all for.

Thanks in advance for the input.

I think FFG will be supporting Talisman for some time, so it is totally worth investing in the new edition. The Revised 4th Edition should offer you the best of all editions so far, and something new to boot.

Yeah, I agree with TI. 4.5E really is just the best quality Talisman probably ever produced so far. All the miniatures are well done, the board art and size are EPIC, and I love the texture/quality of the cards. Even the dice are very nice.

Also, yeah if you like expansions this is the way to go, because if FFG keeps it up this looks like it could have the most expansions of any version of Talisman yet! We can already be pretty sure that the 3 other corner region boards will be made, and I see no reason why all the great things from all other old expansions won't be eventually updated/included. Even with the 3rd edition, I know FFG can't use Warhammer characters/species, but they have already just made new generic names for stuff to get around that, like 'Black Elf' instead of 'Dark Elf' for the Dungeon.

I'd love to see every cool thing from both 1E/2E and 3E to eventually be included in 4.5E to make this the best version yet.

I think this is going to become the ultimate version of Talisman to own.

Hi muaddib33,

I am also a Talisman 3th edition player, and i must say that i am very happy with the 4th Revised edition.

When i bought the base game, i was not very satisfied, because there was not enough interesting cards for it, but everything changed when the Reaper came out, and somewhat later, FFG shows us the Dungeon expansion too !

It has the same board idea, but it has become bigger, and there are more dungeon cards for it.

They combine the ideas of Second and Third edition to make the ultimate board for Talisman.

This also means that a lot of rules has changed, because the main board is based on the Second edition.

I call it positive as negative. For example) there are less draw 2 cards on the middle region because they where changed to Runes spaces. Swords will never break etc

Another positive point is that you can get a lot of spell cards. You don't get much in Third edition. On the board and many cards gives you the chance to draw a spell card.

The most interesting point is that you will miss the Dragon Tower. BUT.. maybe that FFG will make the tower in the future, that will be placed on the inner region !

FFG is doing a very good job, and as Matt already said, we can expect 3 more Regions. It would probably be Forest, Mountains and City too( but it's still a surprise off course what we get !

Conclusion:It is worth to get the 4th Revised edition, with the Reaper, and the Dungeon expansion, even if you own Third edition !

You can always change from edition, wich one you want to play, but if FFG will go on like this, then they will beat the 3th edition easily !

Greetings,

~Velhart~

I own the 2nd, the 3rd and the 4th Edition, played all of them lots of times.

Short answer to your question: YES .

A quick question...and my apologies for going off the topic slieghtly, but what are the difference between the 4th and the 4th revised...I had the option to get the 4th but opted to get the revised (cost more) as the cards looked better to me...?

I have both the 4th and revised versions and will shortly sell the 4th (still sealed) to attempt to get my pennies back on it...

There is a lot of diference between them.

Black industries version has no figures for characters( only cardboard), no fate tokens, no smaller cards etc

The character cards from FFG are updated too. The balance is better now.

The board is also a little bigger

Except for the poor Priest, who FFG crucified, skinned and then finally had worms eat.

Thanks for the info...

Will keep hold of the revised and sell the 4th by B.I.

I only paid twelve pound for it so should get my money back hopefully as I have not opened it yet... lengua.gif

We accidently ordered 2 Talismans by mistake of each version...
