New Astro's

By negative9, in X-Wing

So I think the x-wing "nudge" will come in a form that resembles the advanced fix. An auto include 0 point title that reduces the cost of equipped astro-mechs by 2 points(to a minimum of 0). Have you ever seen an x-wing without a droid? It would just be an empty hole behind the cockpit. It will come with some new droids of course.

This thread is meant for a bit of fun imagining what the future might look like. So lets have some fun with it. Here are some of my ideas.

R11 2pts

When attacking a ship with 2 or less agility, you may turn one [eyeball] result into a [hit].

R12 5pts

The target of your attacks may not use focus tokens to modify defense dice.

R13 5pts

At the start of combat phase, you may increase your agility value by 1. If you do, receive 1 stress token for each attack that hits you this turn.

R14 4pts

After you perform a green maneuver, you may take a free barrel roll action.

R15 2pts

Once per turn after you spend a focus token, roll a green die. On a [eyeball]or [evade] result, gain a focus token.

R16 3pts

At the start of the end phase, remove 1 stress token from you ship.

R17 4pts

Once per turn, when you are declared the target of an attack, you may force the opponent to chose another legal target that is within range 1 of your ship.

R18 4pts

When you spend a target lock during an attack, you may change 1 of your [eyeball] results to a [hit] result.

R19 4pts

When you are declared the target of an attack, you may take a free barrel roll action. If you are no longer a legal target, the attacker may chose another target.

R20 4pts

Increase your shield value by 1.

10 new droids to have fun thinking about. I tried to make them give the x-wing a unique character, not step on the toes of droids we already had, and make them so they would not be OP on other platforms.(looking at you e-wing).

FFG's done a couple of fixes now, and they've all been novel. I suspect that whatever "fix" the X-Wing warrants, it won't be a simple copy and paste of what's already been done. Look at Autothrusters for a good example of how adding something new might be a better way of affecting change than taking something out (like points).

I agree with you. But I think I just like the idea of x-wings always having a droid. It just feels right to me.

Sometimes flavor has to be sacrificed for a better game experience.

I think those are pretty well thought out. well done. Even if FFG doesn't go that route, those would be fun unique droids to house rule into a custom scenario.

I think R19 should be Mynock, the one that screamed every time Wedge was being shot at.

EDIT: Thinking about it, for balance sake maybe it should be a once per round ability.

I thought the R-series only went to like...7...

Is the X wing used in the game?

I thought it was just the games title?

I do like the idea of all X wings getting a mech, I think people have stopped using them for the most part.

I like this, I don't know that I agree with the need, but my x-wings don't see much play, mainly because all the other ships want a turn.

On the topic of empty slots, I always imagine a load astromech in the ships I don't buy a good one for. Something with no game effect beyond theistic noises.

But I think I just like the idea of x-wings always having a droid. It just feels right to me.

To this end, I propose the following 0pt. Astromech card:

"Astromech: Your ship is equipped with an astromech buddy."

Well, isn't the issue with the X-wing's durability? I think MajorJuggler pointed out that one additional hull evens it out mathematically. So, what if the title said something like "Astromechs give +1 hull in addition to their unique abilities." And make it zero points and problem solved.

I doubt we'll see an X-Wing title card.

Why? Because we already have 3 ways to get X-Wings (Core set, Transport and X-Wing expansion). If they were to produce an X-Wing title, it'd logically have to be included in some expansion pack with an X-Wing miniature, giving us 4 different packs with an X-Wing model.

I think it's more likely we'll see something along the lines of the Autothrusters card, in the sense that it was included with the StarViper but helped the A-Wing and the TIE Interceptor. Come to think of it, the X-Wing and the E-Wing are quite similar: for both ships, the named pilots see some use thanks to their PS and abilities, but the generics are rarely used.

If I had to guess, I'd say we might see something that helps both the E-Wing and X-Wing eventually.

Yep, I am quite sure FFG will come up with a way to make us salivate to use our x-wings again that is totally new and unique. But until then I like to ponder the possibilities.

I would be shocked if FFG didn't create a different X-Wing based upon the images we have seen. It would be pretty easy to include a title card or even 2 different title cards that come in each new X-Wing expansion. Those ships would likely be costed similarly to the X-Wings we have now so that you can fly 4 in a list. You purchase 4 new ships plus you fix 4 of your existing ships at the same time. Seems like a good business plan.

Lol. I forgot to put once per round. Would be hilarious head on vs. a tie swarm. Roll, roll, roll, roll, roll. Lol. Maybe we should just save that ability for Vader.

Yeah... I'm in the other camp on that one. The flavor is part of what makes this game enjoyable. If I didn't care about Star Wars flavor... I wouldn't be buying a Star Wars game.

Your R19 says "Barrel Roll ACTION", so it's already limited to once per round ;)

Some fun ideas.

This makes sense thematically .. R2D2 took a hull point for luke.

This is a really good point. An X-wing only card would be a hard sell right now because of the three products that already contain an X-wing. A new X-wing only expiation is highly unlikely. I wouldn't count out a new Rebel Aces pack though for the X-wing/E-wing. They could fix two birds with one stone... er... product. Both these ships have the same problem, the generics don't have enough umpf (that's a technical term) to warrant play. The X-wing side of the pack could center around good generic pilots with EPT (like the Royal Guard Interceptors) and the E-wing just needs new pilots with useful new abilities.

I think they all automatically have a 0 point droid that just does nothing.

I hope your right, its just wrong to have the namesake collect dust.

But I fear there is no money in pushing the old x wing, the new movie is its only hope of getting attention from ffg.

I'd be really glad to have the x-wing made competitive again, I love that thing.

I was thinking something like this title:

Title

X-wing only

Updated Astromech Ports

0 Points

All non unique Astromech Droids cost 1 squad point less then their base cast to a minimum of 0.

Edited by eagletsi111

Title

X-Wing & Y-Wing only

0 points

"Droid Ejector"

Whenever you are dealt a Damage card, you may discard an Astromech upgrade to discard that card.

Turns any droid upgrade into a "super shield" that can stop any crit, just like Chewbacca crew. Give it to Y-Wings too, which can't use it with the BTL/A4 title, and put 2 of them in a Yavin Aces pack with new Y-Wing pilots, new Torpedoes, and all the droids and X-Wing pilots that came in the Transport.

Not crazy about the title card specifically, but I do love the idea of getting those X-wing cards without having to buy a transport. That's a really good idea.
