Scratchbuild/Kitbash Tie Bomber

By Isnigu, in X-Wing

I'm working on a Tie Bomber. Was wondering what you guys thought about the progress so far.

Its alright

I cant really see the point though?

I mean you'll need to buy a FFG tie bomber for the stand and dial to use it alongside the one you have anyway.

If its like a 'version 2' i can understand that but it seems like a hell of a lot of time and effort to recreat something you can pick up for a tenner.

You've probably cut up about ten pounds worth of 40k plastics to make it :)

It's purely for fun :). The bits have been gathering dust anyway, might aswell put em to good use. I scratchbuilt quite a bit of 40k stuff in the past to relax and unwind. Thought I'd give building something x-wing for a change.

I feel like x-wing needs a lot "smaller" scale of mods though. Stuff that would look fine on a 40k project seem too big here, if you take comparative scale into account. Or do you guys think the mods still look ok as they are?

I think you've got skill and its a neat job but it doesnt really look right if im honest.

I think i can clearly see the donor parts too easily.

That's because it's still work in progress. It needs lots more lil fiddly stuff to break the clean surfaces. I'm just worried about the scaling a bit, hence why I asked for feedback on it.

Cool scratchmodel, the donor parts make it look a bit busy. I also think the marine packpack is to recogniziable as a marine part. Besided from that, I thinn it looks cool.

In this extreme closeup the moldline on the engine part suddenly jumped out. That has been sanded out now :)

Anyway, much happier scale wise. Think I'll continue in this direction.

Nice. Makes a good tooled-up ride for Rhymer. i can see the Engine Upgrade.

V2.0 of your build looks much better. As mentioned prior, less recognisable parts I guess.

I'm not sure why .. But I love .. LOVE .. your cockpit. (Hmm, that sounds a little naughty).

Thanks. You'll see more updates when I get some more free time.

The cockpit comes from Zinge "lights":

I'm absolutely loving this. Looks like a teenage smuggler who always loved TIE bombers tried to cobble one together from spare parts, but couldn't help changing a few things.

I have to agree with Gadge, I just don't see the point of it but it's clear you at the very least have some talent scratchbuilding stuff. My best advice would be to try to 'disguise' some of the borrowed parts better. Using old bits to further a build is a great idea but they tend to look at their very best if it's hard to recognize them as what they actually are.

Are you refering to version 1 or version 2? Version 2 isnt that obvious in what parts it uses I think?

Bit of work done on the wings. Slowly getting there.

Keep doing what your doing....IT LOOKS GREAT !

as for the other comments, just take it as constructive criticism.

your doing an excellent job and in a way, nothing can be said against your work thus far as you have not finished the model yet !

it always comes together when you blow over the model with primer.

you then get to see how everything tie's in together ( no pun intended )

Great Job so far,

All the best,

Barry.

Thanks a lot. Your topic of the yt2400 is what actually inpsired me to start scratchbuilding something for x-wing, so golly :)

And yeah I know from my 40k builds that it will always come together right after you greenstuff all the gaps and then prime it.

Some greenstuffing and a basecoat later:

I thought of scribing the solar panels, but it would be a lot of work, and probably still look sloppy in the end. Instead I am going to use a metal mesh gauze to simulate it with paint. A lot less effort, and probably looks a lot better.
