A 'redeploy' crew card... and 'attack formation',

By Gadge, in X-Wing

I thought the other day that a great 'crew card' would be a 'strategist' card.

It would allow you to , after normal deployment, move one or a number of ships to new locations.

Representing the fact that you had tricked the opponend to expect you to fight on the right side of the board but it was a feignt and you were really engaging from the left.

it could be a modification like 'decoy scanner drogues'

For eample, its 5pts and you roll 3 green dice, for each 'evade' you get you can reposition one of your ships.

I also thought another cool card could be 'stay in attack formation' its a 2pt EPT that allows you to *move* at the same time as the ship before you. Sort of a reverse 'swarm tactics' to allow you to move earlier than you normally would allowing a 'first firer' high PS ship to also make a blocking action

I don't think I'd use my squad pts and upgrade slot to allow me to reposItion

I think it is an interesting idea

Really?

One of the really successful tactics if you have a 'high PS' flight is to use a denied flank. You can then make sure that all your force hits one flank of theirs en masse.

A redeploy would allow low PS swarms etc to partly do this, it would really open up a new element to the game if you could not , with a high PS flight, be entirely sure where your opponent would be.

It'd be an intriguing flip to the Swarm Tactics way to manage things. Being able to move a block of ships at once would be interesting, especially as it would be a mix of PS then.

It's an interesting idea but there wouldn't be much "surprise!" depending on how it works. Your opponent would know you have it and could make plans appropriately depending on the upgrade's limits. To work it needs to have known limits on it. I believe it is probably best if it allows you to reposition up to X points of ship after the deployment phase although what X should be needs to be determined. Give it a variable cost like X = 10 points of ships per points spent on this upgrade to make it more customizable or simply say 50%, 30% or something like that.
