For me, hands downs the Scyk M3a interceptor.

I thought the HWK had an uninspiring paint scheme but at least thats true to 'dark forces' and its got nothing on the Scyk.

To me the Scyk is awful because.

1. its a nasty colour combo 'mustard and purple', almost opposite colours on the colour wheel and really dont look good.

2. doesnt match any pilot card art

3. Gives it a 'babylon 5' feel

4. Almost looks like it belongs on a 'ground attack' game ship, not a space dogfight.

I had two bought on pre order when S&V came out but never wanted to field them as they just looked rubbish.

I repainted them and almost immediately saw how much nicer they looked and decided to run a flight of them!

As said previousy i always thought the HWK didnt look right in rebel fleets and the rebel Y wing is a bit bland and insipid (really weak yellow on it) compared to the lovely paint job on the scum version.

So whats your least favourite 'factory paint job' on an wing model?

I dont like the Aggressors default paint. It's very simple, which is okay, but it really doesn't bring on the dread that IG-88 is supposed to invoke.

My pal Mark has painted his Bronze with gloss red windows.. looks pretty awesome like that.

The StarViper paint job leaves a lot to be desired. The plain black and white scheme is supposed to be indicative of the Black Sun organization, but there is no symbol to identify it as such (like the one on the wings of the Black Sun Z-95). It's just a very uninspired look. It feels more like something you'd pick your kids up from intergalactic soccer practice in, instead of being a sleek, dangerous, highly advanced starfighter.

Agreed, if you consider that the card art for the star viper has some really nice schemes (the red/grey one is very cool) then the 'black sprayed splotches' one we get is a bit wierd.

it looks a bit like someone painted some decals badly on the wing panels so someone used MSpaint to spray out the errors

Someone on the UK wing FB pages painted a 'butterfly/tigerstripe' starviper, that looked *really* cool.

+1 vote for Starviper . They were trying to make it look worn, I understand that. But it looks like it was done by a 6 year old with a black sharpie. I was planning on leaving 2 of each of my small ship types stock, but I think I'm going to repaint all 4 of my Starvipers

Perhaps you should take another look at your starviper models again. Maybe with a Scumm Z-95 side by side. See if you can't find any similarities...

The HWK looks like a flying turd. And without a turret it might as well be one.

As for technical painting, the Shuttle has been pretty poorly painted.

Is the Scyk really a lousy paintjob if they give you a paint scheme you'll want to change with a ship that is incredibly easy to paint and also lends itself to customization both in actual physical fact and in terms of its fluff?

Really for me, the whole scum faction looks like butt. And I don't mean that they look worn like scum ships should, I just mean they look really poorly painted compared to earlier waves, except first printing core sets.... I can look at my set of 7 xwings and tell you exactly which two I got first.

Ah, so there is a Black Sun logo on the StarViper. Really though, that just strengthens my case. The paint job of the StarViper is so poorly executed (in my opinion) that a significant detail like that didn't even register with me.

It's bad enough to have a disappointing color scheme, but being both disappointing AND distracting doesn't speak highly of the aesthetic quality of the ship.

I may be an outlier, but I DESPISE my red interceptor from Imperial Aces- the regular interceptor and the one with the stripe are nice, but the red one just looks dumb. I really hate it. If anyone wants to trade me a stripped or regular interceptor for it I'm game.

I think the Red TIE Interceptor looks silly without its wing flanges. It just looks like a pilot was like "Screw it" and doesn't actually belong to any guard.

I agree and don't yep it's bland but the Empires paint schemes on it's larger ships have always been somewhat bland. If FFG decided to spruce them up with bunches of daffodils on the side it would be weird.

I was thinking of painting a reaper with a scythe and skull on mine. Nothing colorful at all, but something to break up the monotony of it.

The worst factory paintjob belongs to the rebel Y-wings. This is especially true for the first couple of prints as they were so badly painted that you could barely make out important details and features. I should know as my first repaint was a Y-wing that I even took the time to strip the paint from. Without the factory paintjob I discovered that the ship actually had a turret! I know some people have complained that the Y-wing is a rather bad sculpt but that isn't really the case. A quick comparison with a scum Y-wing show the difference a better paintjob can make.

Rebel Ys are kinda wimpy.

And Decimators are kinda bland. They work. But they're so uninspiring. This must be what it looks like to stare at a cubicle all day. Imagine some giddy Imperial officer with a new promotion: Welcome, you get a new gray cubicle.
