Vessery, OGP, Soontir. Need some help tuning

By Panda Warlord, in X-Wing Squad Lists

The context this list is going to be used is friendly play and I'm expected to pull my punches somewhat with the list but I still want something competitive. I'm pitching two ship bases my group consider bad but I think there is quite a lot of potential here.

So far I've got

OGP: Fleet Officer

Vessery: Flechete Cannon, Decoy

Soontir Fel: Royal Guard, PTL, Auto Thruster, Targeting Computer

Which comes out at 97 points.

I tested it with Ion Cannon on Vessery and FCS on the shuttle but neither upgrade seemed especially useful. Title on the shuttle might be useful.

Any thoughts? While I'm primarily after fine tuning the only things in the list which are sacred is the Deffender and Shuttle ship base so I'm open to more radical sugestions.

The Decoy+Targeting Computer trick with Fel and Vessery is awkward. Fel is fragile enough that he really, really wants to shoot at PS 9. It also leaves both ships with a wasted upgrade once one of them is destroyed (or if circumstances require them to split up).

Hmmm...

Perhaps you could switch Fel out for a Royal Guard Pilot? That's 10 points with Decoy gone, which you could spend on a lot of things.

But Panda, I thought you didn't like Defenders :P

I don't think its awkward per se, I mean Fel doesn't care *that* much about shooting at PS 9 (he's not Whisper afterall) because he still will have his bucketload of tokens (possible +1 more from fleet officer).

I think its fine as is, although adding an FCS on the shuttle will give Vessery more options, so you might not have to use Decoy every round. Regardless, when running Fel, its always nice to have an initiative bid, but not necessarily mandatory, of course

Thanks for the suggestions. I find target lock passing from Fel is happening less often than I thought it would. But then again it's not like he hates having target locks. I'll give FCS another go.

But Panda, I thought you didn't like Defenders :P

Sir, I am offended. Regardless of how effective I think they are, I love Defenders!

If you are taking Fleet Officer, I'd try to put Advanced Sensors on that OGP. That way you can make sure that you are always able to take the Fleet Officer action and take a green move to clear the stress even if you bump.

This is not unlike a list that was making the rounds at one point last year, with Krassis taking the place of Vessery more often than not. You really want to fit an HLC and Vader in there somewhere.

Something this kind of shape?

OGP: Vader, Fleet Officer

Vesery: HLC, [2 point talent]

Royal guard: Title, PTL, Auto Thrusters, Targeting computer

HLC was definitely in my initial wish list but Flechette Cannon is working out pretty well. On Vessery denying K's of something in arc is pretty useful.

It's definitely worth trying though. Thanks for the suggestion!

The Doomshuttle is a sinking ship, so I wouldn't spend more points on it than necessary.

Except adding Gunner, because it's hilarious. But duly noted.

It's cute, but expensive. The Doomshuttle can block, draw aggro, and guarantee crits for a mere 24 points. It's everything you want it to do and more with just Vader on board.

Weapon's Engineer has some good synergy with Vessery.

Vessery is too awkward with interceptors imo, and a shuttle not packing FCS is not a shuttle he wants to party with :P

Imo, wait till ATC advances or run him with a.) bombers or b.) FCS shuttle and FCS Echo

you could try either

Vess

Echo (V.I, FCS, ACD)

Shuttle (FCS, Gunner)

or

Vess

Echo (V.I, FCS, ACD)

Shuttle (FCS, Fleet)

+stuff for 2 points

Fleet officer isn't bad for shoring up focus and essentially given recon spec to ships that can't take it (great for defenders in general who need that focus to boost their 3 agility defense), but when it just comes to enabling pilot abilities it seems to be more of a Brath helper, and while I'd never run the guy a local player ran the combo to okayish effect
