1st Rebel List

By Ranzic, in X-Wing Squad Lists

With my first Rebel list I'm looking at building around my favorite Star Wars character, Wedge Antilles.

Wedge

R5-P9

Predator

Wes

Veteran Instincts

R2-D2

Biggs

R2-F2

Stealth Device

I think that having Wes take the first shot to strip tokens from the target and then letting Wedge take a big shot at them is a good combination. Giving Biggs a bunch of defense dice to roll everytime so that he can survive for a while. Please any help you can give me would be appreciated.

Wedge has always been a beast. Biggs makes a perfect companion.

R5-P9 is OK on wedge to start, but you might get more mileage out of another droid. At the beginning, until Biggs goes down by drawing all fire to him, you won't really get any use out of R5-P9. I would consider changing it to R2 Astromech.

The same goes for Wes and R2-D2. You won't get to use it until biggs goes down. Off the bat you want to cripple your opponent so this is where I would sub R2-D2 for R3-A2. Wes shoots at PS 10 with VI and can stress his target. This does a couple of things. First, you can help shut down a phantom's ACD (probably not that big a deal these days), but secondly you can deter the use of things like Push the Limit or Experimental Interface on your opponent. If they use these common cards, they are stressed. And now you've just added another stress to that pile. Very threatening and for 2 less points.

Now for biggs. Generally a Focus action is better than Just R2-F2 action. What really shine is if you can take two actions. This is where I would put experimental interface. Each turn you can focus and exp interface to trigger R2-F2.

Many people will say since Biggs dies first anyway that they wouldn't sink more points into him. I find it to be a personal preference in how you play. Ideally you want to protect the rest of your list and put out some hurt in the first few turns in order to make Biggs' sacrifice worthwhile.

Now, if you are interesting in changing your ships around, I would consider looking at something like this revolving around Wedge:

Wedge + Predator + R2 Astromech - 33 Points

Biggs - 25 Points

Bandit Squadron Pilot x3 - 36 Points

6 Points remain for something like a proton torpedo on Wedge and maybe R4-D6 on Biggs.

OR if you don't have the bandits you could try Tarn Mison + R7 - 25 Points, one tala - 13 points, and a proton torp on Wedge.

There might be more efficient lists out there but if wedge shoots a proton torp at you with predator it is just devastating...

Either way, The main point here is to look at Biggs and Wedge as a base line and try to fit more than just a third ship. It opens up new strategies and possibilities of blocking and generally gives you more utility and firepower to take on other types of ships.

don't trust green dice, ever

Imo, you'd be better off with a biggs that packed guaranteed defenses such as a hull upgrade and R4-D6 (Christ is this **** essential against heavily modified phantoms and HLCs)

What if I modify your list a little and bumped the bandits to talas and gave Biggs R5-P9? That would use up the remaining 6 points I think. This would allow Biggs to be a survive maybe a little longer.

R5-P9 costs 3 points and to regenerate a shield it takes a focus token. In most cases you will need your focus token for defense. When you only get one focus a turn (unless your list is built around getting Biggs extra focus tokens via something like Kyle in the HWK-290) it is generally better to have it for defense. Yes, you MIGHT not need it, but I believe that your three points would be better spent on a hull upgrade on Biggs.

This gives him more survivability that is actually practical. Very rarely would I think that your focus token goes unused and you end up getting a shield out of it. This is, however, unless you plan to break off and just start regenerating shields after the first round of fire. In that case, R5-P9 is legit.

Normally though if you break away, Biggs isn't THAT fast, so you will still be getting shot at and need your focus on defense.

Awesome okay. Thank you very much for your help.
