I have backed this guys project https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/140687943/war-mats/description but it just got much better! This is THE mat I have been waiting for!!!
3x6 Death Star trench game mat on kickstarter.
And that he has gone back to the actual trench model shows his dedication. I'd love to see these funded and produced. I will change my pledge to get the trench as well.
I wish it was centered though.
Still looks great!
I'm in; been waiting on this mat since I bought the game.
I made my own in photoshop and got it printed. Its not hard an to be honest no real reason to need a kick starter project
I contacted this person about the map. It's $50 with free shipping in cont. U.S. Anyone who has purchased a 3x3 mousepad material mat should know this is a good deal. My only concern is how far away from his mark this is with only 15 days left to go. I for one hope this makes it, it's a great deal and would be sweet for a trench run scenario.
Not to be a Negative Nancy but why is there so much love for the trench run? I know it's an iconic scene in the trilogy but it's also the scene with the most restrictive movement and limited tactics. I fail to see how exciting this can be for miniature play.

It is centered along the long axis. It does have the trench end with the shaft so that you can take your shot then pull out of the trench
Trench runs are my idea of HELL I have an imagination let me use it.
Id back it shipping from the US wasn't completely bat-s**t insane these days
It looks like like the 3 x 3 and 3 x 6 trench mats are different designs. The original one (3x3) looks great (and I like that it is not centred) and it actually looks like it would be a nice mat to play on generally, but the larger epic sized mat looks poor in comparison. It looks worse that the god awful GF9 one. Way too much contrast and on the background and too dark in general making it difficult to pick up the actual ships.
Being in New Zealand I won't back the kickstarter but would have been interested in a 6 x 3 in the original trench styling (rather the than the new 'designer' one) after the kickstarter. That being said it looks doubtful that it will reach the funding goal anyway. That's a shame.

You can't be serious about the contrast of the second trench map.
The majority of suggestions have been to make it darker.
The miniatures are actually a lighter grey in comparison,
so much darker rather than lighter actually makes more sense.
But the point of the map is to have the realism of the movie,
and perhaps you are missing that it would be harder
to see other ships while you are flying above the Death Star.
Besides which the mat is flat and the miniatures have no trouble
standing out above it on their little stands no matter what.

To keep things interesting both in the trench and above it, and to have a high level of tension and lots of strategic depth, this was my solution:
Death Star Trench Run: http://www.outworld-studio.com/xwing/pdf/Dagobahs-DSTR-v01.pdf
I would be curious to know how many people would prefer a different crop of the original?
It would only be 5.5 tiles wide to be able to fit 4 X-wings abreast in the trench.
But I expect that if it was the full 17 tiles wide then you could only fit one X-wing in the trench.

I've actually never played a trench run so I'll take what I can get and use it a few times before making suggestions.

True, but I'm hoping for maybe 2 side by side, 3 or 4 might be way too big. its supposed to be crampt.
I am so psyched for this mat! $50 is tough to beat at 3x6.

I'd say it looks cramped because it's a deep trench and they are going very fast,
but to be fair it's about 47 meters across and X-wings are only 11 meters wide.
I just don't like having to crop so much of the original image away.

It doesn't look like it's going to happen at this point.
Too bad.
I've had a lot of fun running a Trench Run game at my local game store:
https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/139100-death-star-trench-run/
It's a lot of fun. It's also suckered in a couple of new guys to the game. It is also challenging.
As for the mat....well...I'm cheap. I printed out a big 4x4 print out and cut & taped it together. I did get lazy and not get them all lined up.

He's already been debating doing a second attempt for the kickstarter.
