Visit from the Armada Forum, curious about custom cards in X-wing

By Thalomen, in X-Wing

Hi,

I've been looking at some of the custom cards and custom card generators you guys have built. I'm curious about the same thing for Armada with custom commanders and ship names.

How do you make the cards? If any of you play both games, are you planning to make generators for Armada?

Thanks!

They'll be made soon enough but bear in mind Armada only just came out. X-wing's got three and it's been at it for three years.

I uderstand it will take time. Im just curious how X-wing players do it. For that matter, how do you even agree between other players to use them? Are they allowed in the rules?

They are not allowed in the rules. If anyone uses them it's in a purely casual setting.

As for how the cards are made, it's a mix of Photoshop skills and possibly access to a good scanner to put together a template.

After that, anyone with basic Photoshop skills can throw a card together easily enough.

I believe what you are looking for is a card creation program called "strange aeons", which has a plug in for doing x-wing cards. Presumably plug ins for armada and imperial assault will get made eventually.

Custom cards are strictly unofficial and you just kind of agree with your opponent if you want to use them. For that reason, if you want to actually play with home brew cards, it is usually a good idea to err on the side of underpowered and not make super powerful Mary/Gary Sue/Stu cards.
