I went to look at the tournament rules again last night and noticed that they've already been updated. It looks like all the wording on going up to 400pts is gone and everything is just straight up at 300pts now. Anyone else notice that?
Tournament size changed already?
Annoyed with the sudden change and lack of communication about it.
The whole document is now set up for 300 point games, including the margin of victory table, which makes it hard to run a 180 point "come play this new game" tournament. That's lovely considering that we've already scheduled one at my FLGS.
It's FFGs Web Department they are constantly messing up links, posting wrong document versions, etc.
Just email customer support.
Hopefully just a mistake. I've got two cores so I don't mind 300 if that's what it's going to be, but I thought it was refreshing that they had originally set things so that people just need one core and that it would grow with the expansions. And I was looking forward to 400pt games!
Could be april fool's day prank.

Unlikely. Probably just inconsistent communication. Never underestimate the power of human error.
Wasn't 300 points the standard until wave 2 (when the ISD and other big ships get released) when it jumps to 400?
Edited by Deathseed300pts is the standard until Wave 2.
This 180pt value only exists as a stop gap measure. There is no way they actually intended this game to be played at a point level for tournaments. But whatever caused then to not get Wave 1 out with the Core forced them to construct a tournament system for a point level they likely never considered.
So it's likely they updated thier servers which put the actual event rules up instead of the stop gap measure they had to come up with.
Only problem with that is that there's a date and version number on the header of the document, which means that it was updated and intended for release on that day.
Well, at least it means I can have static squadron limits in my battlescribe files.
It looks like given the red text that they were attempting to update the Armada rules with the correct play mat restrictions as they did with X-wing. Seems like they posted the wrong version even if they meant to update it.
And they didn't do that correctly as towards the end it stills says on FFG playmate are allowed.
Edited by ScottieATFLOL, they also took out the suggested time limits... Whoever modified this and re-posted the link was not playing close attention to detail...

Well, I sincerely hope they haven't changed their mind about point limits. I was looking forward to 400pt tournaments. It definitely would have a more epic feel to it.

This. So much this. Smaller games are simply less epic.
Why do I like the thought of Armada?
Because I *want* to play epic fleet battles. X-wing already scratches my smaller skirmish itch.
Perhaps they're removing the 400 point mention in normal tournament play, only so that they can make a separate document for Epic Armada play at 400+ points.
Admittedly, after making and trying various fleets at 300, I think 400 would make for a nicer base game.

Well, to tell the truth, there's nothing stopping you from playing larger battles with your friends and peers (well, once we have the models anyway). Just not the tournaments.
Personally, outside of the sales stimulation it provides that helps FFG stay in business, I couldn't give a flying fig about tournaments. I just want cool models, fun games with my friends, memorable game stories, and plenty of pew-pew-pew.
Hm .. this is extremely troubling.
I do hope that this is a mistake. The only reason I got a second core was that I was expecting 3 VSD to be feasible in a 400 Point List.
@300 Points I don't see ever fielding a third and would have held back for Wave 1.
If it's not a mistake I am feeling a bit cheated ...
Tournaments are merely my excuse for a full day of gaming!
I sent off a rules question request to FFG, if I get an answer, I will post it here....
Possible response from FFG in the equivalent BGG thread indicating it was an error and that both 180 and 400 point limits are accurate at their wave releases:
Nice catch! Good to see that 400pts will still end up being the standard!
Looks like a new file uploaded as they said - but apart from the changes to the front stating it was an update on the 2nd April the rest is unchanged. So no mention of 400 points but it looks like another cock up as it still has the 'mat' bit in it !

The file I get at the current link has the "Future of Armada" Box, that announces 300 and 400 points, again and is based on 180 Point games as well as the intended change allowing third party mats.

They haven't updated all the links by the looks, the link from the tournament page goes to the new one - the tournament rules link from the front page goes to the old one.
The page structure at FFG is being changed. At one time, one had to go through different pages to click on the "related news" to get either a list of preview, or game previews. Annoying as hell. FFG is fixing that. I believe in the process, the wrong document got posted.
But, what version are you specifically referring to. I just downloaded the tournament rules, and it says on page 3 what the future of Armada is, along with round times. 180->300->400. VERSION 1.0.2 / UPDATED 4.2.2015
