Simple solution for fiddlely maneuver tool

By Von Deekin, in Star Wars: Armada

IT FINALLY ARRIVED!!! Got my core copies of Armada yesterday. After watching various videos & reading many concerns about how difficult it can be to use the maneuvering tool, I have come up with a simple solution:

A cardboard template of the two available size ships. (medium & small classes) Trace the ship base onto a piece of cardboard/cardstock before assembling your capitol ships. When using the maneuver tool you can easily place this template where the hindering miniature ship is located, (on the playing area), move the ship you want & then simply place the mini back where the template was. Also an easy way to check for possible overlapping. This way, during the maneuver process, the tool will lay flat on the playing surface.

From another forum I borrowed the idea of using the Setup Area markers when needing to move the starfighters aside when using the same maneuver tool. Just place the inside 'V', of the Setup marker adjacent to the starfighters base, move it out of the way and after moving your capitol ship just place starfighters back. 'V' marks the spot!

I cut my cardboard templates out of that 'adorable' insert that FFG is famous for & it works great.

Maybe, someday, FFG will come up with a game expansion, with cards (with cool pictures on them!), that can be used in the same manner described above for the capitol ships.

Hope this helps some of the individuals that are having problems with their maneuver tools and playing area obstructions.

Game on!!

No camera.

Sorry!!

Its 2015, who doesn't have a camera on them at all times?

Me. AND, i also have a phone that stays home. (although it is cordless.)

I am sorry.... But any man whom does not have a working Commlink with a Camera should not be able to Captain a Starship.... Just saying!

How else are you going to post a selfie with Darth Vader to the Holonet just prior to your imminent choking???

Ok, now I am really impressed. A man without a digital camera or camera phone, or smart phone, or webcam, or webcam integrated with a laptop, or a tablet with integrated camera can actually use the Internet.

Are you still rolling a Pentium 3 with Windows 95 with 56.6k dialup?

Vader does that for you. He has a rep to maintain.

I though Luddites were a myth! :P

Not really, I've worked in the IT field and met too many people who couldn't be bothered to keep up with basic modern technology to think that.

You've made your robot overlords very sad Deekin. :(

Nice idea. We used the setup corner things you get with the core, which do the job admirably - they work great for squadrons too.

Yeah, I seem to remember something in the rules suggesting that, but both ideas are keen :D

I tried to put the polaroid into the big black box here, but can't find a slot to fit it in.

Nah, you got it wrong. I 'am the robots overlord, and have an army of clones to prove it.

You know what the say......"you seen one flat piece of cardboard, you seen 'em all".

I am just shocked that you don't have a digital camera. I don't think they even make physical film anymore, so I guess I can only assume you don't take pictures.
