1) You choose one of the three things to destroy, 3 raiders OR 1 heavy raider OR 1 centurion
2) Yes, you can choose an option when you don't have enough cards to discard for it.
3) Yes, you draw a crisis card like normal when you get out of the brig.
4) yes the game is awesome ![]()
Thanks for the quick reply. Only thing we have done wrong is the discard thingie then.
Cheers!
Has there been an official ruling on Brutal Force? Every single person in my group has always read the card as Destroy 3 raiders plus 1 centurion or 1 Heavy Raider. It has never even been questioned.
I must admit though, it's amazing how many little things one of us picks up on after every game. I've lost track of how many times we've played, but at least one of us figures something out that we've been doing "wrong." It's never really been anything big enough to decide the game over, just little things here and there. The most recent being that every one of us missed the wording in the rulebook about the unused Destination card going to the bottom of the deck instead of the discard pile after a jump. Our group consists of around 10-12 people.

I don't think it would need an official ruling if your group understood what a comma is.
The phrasing is:
Destroy 3 Raiders COMMA 1 Heavy Raider COMMA or 1 Centurion PERIOD
By the frakkin rules of the English language if you have a list of things seperated by commas, and there is an "or" between the second to last and the last item, then all the items are considered to functionally have "or"s between them.
If it meant what your group thinks it does, then it would say something like:
You may destroy 3 raiders, and destroy a heavy raider or a centurion.

If that was the case then it would read 'Destroy 3 raiders and either 1 centurion or 1 heavy raider'. Im afraid if it hasn't been questioned, then currently the players are not parsing the punctuation correctly on the card, which is actually quite explicit as the usage of 'comma, comma, OR' means OR for all sections, so choice of one of the three options. As such, no official ruling is required, the card says enough.

For a native speaker perhaps. I thank to you for this tread, becouse we had a big argument about this card in our group of non-native english speakers. Our grammar works a bit different, so it is good to read "proper" explanation.

Just because I'm curious, what is your native language and how does it handle things like lists and "and/or" statements?

Thats more someone requiring a native speaker clarifying how to translate. I see this a lot when looking at translated rules from German games (and we are lucky enough to have ready access to convenient Germans to point out how translation has been done badly). Thats a little different to needing an official ruling on the card from the makers. I realise that is making fine distinctions in definitions - but that is kind of the area we were already in..... ![]()

If I ever visit Germany, I'd like to be introduced to some "convenient" German ladies.
(Sorry, I had to do it.)
