I have been wanting to try some of the named tie interceptor pilots but for their points, I find them lacking. From the aces pack and expansion pack, the named pilots abilities are ok...and that's it. My biggest complaint is that many can not take an elite pilot talent. Although they are not named, I find the royal guards with PTL are far better then most of the named pilots. Any one feel the same? I would really like to hear what named pilots are doing well out there besides big bad fel. It's my opinion that every interceptor should have the options to be extremely mobile or turtle up. When a pilot can't do that, they get taken out real quick. Thoughts?
Named interceptor pilots
Soontir Fel
Carnor Jax
Turr Phennier
In that order are the best intercepter pilots.
Tetran Cowell has had a bit of a boost with Stay On Target.
Fels Wrath is probably the worst pilot in the game.

Half of them have EPTs, the half that get used because the PTL interceptor is the one people go for. Kanos and Lorrir would be amazing with PTL and Lorrir'd be good even without an EPT if his ability didn't stress him.
Fel's Wrath's just plain too situational to be worth considering. Now that RGP exists there's really no reason to take him.
Edited by TIE PilotMany of the named pilots, and not just the Tie interceptors, lose out on the pilot skill bid. Sure the point cost scales well with the pilot skill but not necessarily the unique pilot abilities. Many good abilities such as Lt. Loirr which is stuck at skill 5 (one of the worse being in the middle), do not work well with the pilot skill bracket they are placed in. Echo's ability which used to be real great (pre-nerf) was still outclassed by Whisper's pilot skill. With the Phantom nerf coming in I am sure you will see much less of echo (about as much has Fel's Wrath).
Come to think of it I think the only pilot ability that scales well with the skill is Tarn's ability.
Edited by MarinealverI think now that pilot skill is so much less important for phantoms (and thus everyone else) you'll see a lot more of Echo.
Soontir FelCarnor Jax
Turr Phennir
Are the only named Interceptor pilots worth fielding at the moment.
The others either lack PS/an EPT, or have a badly designed Pilot Ability that does the opposite of what the ship is supposed to do.
(e.g. Fel's Wrath, Lt. Lorrir, Kir).
Yeah, I'm not sure how you'd keep an Interceptor that didn't have very high pilot skill alive very long, so it's got to be the top guys for me.

I dunno two named with a guard has been known to work, really will you ignore soontir to shoot the generic?
It's a shame that the mid-PS pilots don't see more (or indeed any) play. Lorrir and Kir are sadly hobbled by their lack of EPT and/or their own abilities, and if you're looking for a cheaper Interceptor the Royal Guards are superior.
Kir needs access to PTL to make him worth choosing over the Royal Guard, but giving Lorrir an EPT won't save him as the stress from his ability is his main weakness. If there was a cheap modification that let Interceptors barrel roll outside of their action step (at the end of the activation phase, for example), then suddenly Lorrir would have a pseudo-PTL and his PS wouldn't be holding him back as much
Yeah, the generic Royal Guard outclasses most of the named pilots (which does fit with the background...except for the part where Kir Kanos doesn't have an EPT
).
I love Carnor Jax - I used to have Fel as my go-to Interceptor, took a brief hiatus from flying high-skill squints (Alpha Squadron!), and started using him when I started Pushing the Limit again. I fly him pretty conservatively, use Focus+Evade most of the time, and don't generally go out of my way to force his ability. Honestly, most of the time, it's just the psychological aspect of his ability that helps - people will go to great lengths to avoid getting in close to him, or only Target Lock (thereby relying on unmodified evasion dice to stay alive) - and that's worth it for me.
