I totally agree with your dream. I just want to fly the fighters and command the squadron. I'll leave the FPS to people who don't charge into hails of BBs with their mouths hanging open.
Tansarii Point Station Scenario/Event!
I love a good boarding action, tight lanes of fire, cramped spaces. Only thing I like better is close air support. I do love flying the apache in arma/op flashpoint for that reason. My friends squad moving through the trees, spotting enemy Armour and AA, they LAW the Shilas and withdraw into the treeline where they can't easily be spotted. I hellfire the Tanks, Hydra the trucks and BMPS (actually no. I just hydra the entire **** village, it's abandoned anyway). They come in to clean stragglers.
man I REALLY want to play a zone mortalis game now, and have a squad or two with siege boarding shields.
And Terminators. Always, Terminators.
Edited by DariusAPBThe big downside to ARMA is that there is not a MiG-29 using its helmet-mounted target designator to lock you up off-boresight with its R-73 Vympel and making the Fox 2 call.
Edited by NightshrikeARMA can be modded, So the MIG29 will be there somewhere, I remember adding just that plane into OPFLASH a decade ago. I remember lovingly enjoying piloting different variants of the MI24 Hind, airdropping squads of troops for cleanup after my initial assault.
I love that the Hind can carry 8 in the back, while retaining it's ability to seriously pile on the hurt.
This said yeah, the series doesn't have the advanced targeting options a true flightsim would.
Edited by DariusAPBEven the flightsims don't have it. Now our block II AIM-9X is giving us lock-on after launch capability. You fire the missile, and while it's airborne, you paint the target with your helmet designator, and it flies to it. So, you theoretically can shoot it forward, have it turn around, and take out the dude on your six o'clock. Ah technology...

I remember seeing this lovingly re-created in Battlefield 3, using a cross between an immelman turn, ejecting and a stinger...
I know this isn't quite a flight sim, but Ace Combat is a fun lovely game.
Err...no. No. Consoles...no.
Consoles aren't terrible depending on what you want, for most games I'd rather have a console.
For the big detailed games (flight sims, wargames like ARMA - big RPGs) the PC is, has been and will always be king.
HAWX on the 360 is a hella fun game.
Edited by DariusAPBElite Dangerous is a fun Sci-Fi spaceflight sim. Really fun with an Occulus Rift, though I apparently get sick using those things. It's still pretty awesome without the 3D and headtracking.
I play HAWX on my cell phone. For when I must have fighter piloting, but I'm on a bus or in the waiting room at the doctor's office or something.
The first HAWX was responsible for 50% of players I met avoiding me on xbox live.
I used to play on realistic mode (yeah i know) and routinely carry the entire team/wipe out the entire enemy team.
Edited by DariusAPBI've cleared so many Battlefield 3, Battlefield Heroes, and other not-flight-sims of opposition it was kind of depressing. After killing them in a one-turn dogfight two or three times, they just gave up. One of my favorite more realistic sims was Targetware, which was free to play, and I was awarded their golden club two months in a row for clubbing the most baby seals (killing the most new pilots). Yay for ruthlessness, I think that might just be my elite pilot talent.
Matches your avatar...
I did this with BF2142 back in the day, just took the VTOL, kept the skies clear, reloaded at pad, took out targets of opportunity, rinse, repeat.
Yay for ruthlessness or boo for bullying. Did they have ares for newbs to learn the basics? I would have thought having rewards for killing the nuggets would drive potential fans and players away.

Nah, the new players were not segregated, nor were they identified. It wasn't really that I was bullying. I also had the most kills overall both months and the most kills against highly skilled opponents, so it was just that I had the most of everything and I happened to have the most newbies too. But I enjoyed those clubs because I thought they were a hilarious award. They were sort of an honor/shame thing in order to get people to help out the new pilots. I owned it though.
I just looked up EVE: Valkryie, having played EVE for a bit some years ago. You have made my day.
Absolutely gorgeous paintjobs on those, Gadge! Well done!
thank you , they were very quick, probably about 30 mins to an hour for the lot.
Foundry paint straight over the factory paint. Arctic Grey (mid), drybrushed up with 'canvas' (light). The the orange is citadel foundation 'orange' with foundry 'ocre' (shade) over the top, highlights with 'german camo orange (mid) (i think). washed with citadel 'gryphone sepia'
Serissus purple is 'wine stain red' (shade) by foundry highlighted with 'Shadow pink' (shade) washed with citadel 'leviathan purple' to unify it.
Then all of them had a 50/50 mix of water and foundrys 'black' (shade) washed over the light grey/white areas which was then dragged off immeditatley with tissue.
I acutally liked them more before they were 'grimed' with the black mix but the wash and drag effect makes them look more liek the style FFGs factory use so they dont look out of place net to stock paint jobs.
edit: oh and i tried to leave the cockpits as they were but where i got any drybrushing of the white or orange onto the 'frame' or 'window' i repainted with foundry 'black' (shade) and 'granite' (mid)
(foundry paints come in three tones of each colour, shade, mid and light. This lets you paint armies up quick as you dont need to mix your highlights but sometimes i find another shade makes a better highlight than the intended one. Given the make over 180 different colours and i've got em all - as i used to work for them so got them dirt cheap - it gives you a hell of a lot of options.
Edited by GadgeThanks for that. Always nice to hear the techniques. I've been working the last two days on trying to paint something yellow. Bloody impossible.
I struggle with yellow.
I find the best way is white undercoat.
The foundry 'yellow' (shade) , blending up through mid to highlights in the same tone/pack.
Wash it with 'gryphonne sepia' then pick up the edges with yellow highlight.
This clearly isnt an xwing model but this is the above technique used on a test piece to try out painting yellow for my old school marine army.
If you look at the guys in the front row you can get a more 'worn' and understated yellow from using foundry 'ochre' over a lyanden darksun yellow citadel foundation.
Again, do Ochre (mid), a little 'ochre' (lights) then put a wash of gryphone sepia with a tiny touch of 'devlan mud' in it.
Beakies! With yellow I always primed black, and started layering browns until graveyard earth and bubonic brown, then thin yellow over.
Edited by DariusAPBSo, does anyone know what happened in the mission in the game? If I wanted to recreate it...but never played the MMO, how can I find out what the mission was about? Anyone do it yet?
As for a new space sim, I want one for Xbox. I've been a pc gamer for years and years and years, but I just got my first Xbox. I want a quick, fast, and easy game that I can jump in and dog fight as a Tie Fighter or X-wing with a simple controller.

Just found 3 different posts about it by googling "tansarii". 2 in the wookieepedia and 1 in the SWG wiki. Don't know which is the most accurate, if any.
