Been watching a lot of it on Netflix. And while I have a love/hate relationship with the show, it does make me hope we see an eventual Clone Wars era expansion effort for Armada and X-Wing.
The Clone Wars
If they do there better be an Admiral Trench. Best Admiral the Separatist had and he survived two of his Cruisers being blown to pieces.
But yes, I love the battles they have with capitals and everytime I see them lately I have been itching for Armada.
No!
I will not have Armada stained by those awful films!
The Prequels are a blight on the star wars canon and anything that comes from it must be purged from existence!
Need I remind you how bad the prequels were?
Well that escalated quickly.

They were bad, but they had their good points. And not everything they introduced was complete rubbish.
Besides, I'm just thinking more ships, more fun.
And I'm naggingly curious about the armaments of various Republic and Separatist cap ships.
And yes Jar Jar needs to be strangled with his own tongue.

Oh in that case I'm fine with it.
I was worried you meant prequel factions.
Yeah I can imagine the Republic ships would at least be considered.
Ships like the Acclamator Class and Venator Class look fairly good
The Providence class was used by the Rebels in the EU so it possible they could add that ship to armada as well

I feel your pain. Aggravates me that the pre-quel movies are canon. Thrawn and Rogue Squadron get ditched... But that discussion probably belongs in "Off Topic." Maybe we should start a thread "Midi-Chlorians must Go!" ![]()
And -- yeah --more ships = more fun! As a possible compromise, perhaps surplus Clone Wars era stuff could make its way into the Rebel or Scum & Villainy fleets?
This did occur in the Tarkin book, if I recall correctly. (That book was okay.)
Honestly I was talking about this with some friends I think having Trade Federation Ships might be neat ... I mean ships with low movement not much armament but 6 squadron and little droid fighters that are super cheap and not terribly good ...
I mean in the end its all about more ships to play the game with, but I wouildn't want to see more factions, but I'd like to see the range go through all the Expanded Universe and do whatever! I'm sure we'll see Thrawn at some point as a ship upgrade.
Don't expect prequel stuff from FFG. They have all but said they will never be doing prequel stuff and are focusing on the civil war period.
Then praise heaven for shapeways. The action in the prequels is better than the OT. (Except maybe the PhantomMenace)
Edited by megamenWell, it eventually had to happen.
As far we know for Xwing FFG has no intention to use prequels materials, but further Disney material from the new movies, and maybe rebels if they like it.
I think it's safe to assume the same for Armada meanwhile we don't have any FFG speaker telling otherwise.
About the debate, yes, the prequels had pretty bad things, and Jar Jar was crap, but c'mon, ship design were pretty darn good (except the naboo fighter for me, but of course, all of this is subjective), and that's the only thing that would matter, except if you want to recreate Anakin and Amygdala love story.
Anyways, i think there are plenty stuff from the Xwing game that could translate into Armada, transports, elite fighter squadrons (e-wing, tie defender) or ace packs with more pilots that could make it into the game before the movies gets released.
Here's the thing, the Victory Star Destroyers were late clone wars vintage as were the Venators. The latter are seen on screen as early Imperial craft, and at least according to some of the fluff, Munificent class Star Frigates and other separatist ships found their way into Rebel fleets. If they run out of craft options in various waves, it could be something to mine.
I've noticed that so far the "era" is more flexible --hovering around 0BBY. Tarkin and Motti both perished on the Death Star, and Luke didn't start flying an Xwing until the Battle of Yavin itself.
I'd vastly prefer Clone Wars/Prequel ships to the crap from the EU but, sadly, FFG will have their hands full cranking out Ep 7+ stuff from now one.
I'd love to see Old Republic era ships.
I mean... Harrower-class Star Destroyers...!
I know it's not gonna happen.

I've seen this thrown around a lot but not even seen a source for it. How did they imply this and when?

The era is definitely flexible. The E-wing didn't exist for something like 4 years after Endor, for example. Not a huge stretch but definitely outside of the "original trilogy."

It's been a few times. Most recently with Christian Petersen's video interview with Team Covenant at Worlds Weekend 2014.
Edited by ToqtamishYou say that but there is only so much they can do ... when they run out of ships (and it won't take long) Expanded Universe here we come! Fact is "Civil War" there is only so many SD models you can put out there (Same with ships)
Need to think long term
NOt 4-5 waves... more like 10-15 waves.

Laughing so hard right now.

Yeah, sure. And the EU was this marvelous thing that had no flaws at all. ![]()
I'd take the prequels any day over the EU. .

The EU was all over the map with different story lines, different authors and contributors. I really like some of it, but there's a lot of dead weight that I won't miss.
But then again the prequels had a lot of that too. Stuff I liked and stuff I loathed.
I'm rather fond of the Dark Empire stuff Dark Horse wrote.

But yes, I love the battles they have with capitals and everytime I see them lately I have been itching for Armada.
*** Spoiler Alert****
In that new Admiral Thrawn Tarkin book, which I believe is part of the official storyline, the remnants of Trench's ship make an appearance. When I first read it I had to double check! I don't know if people consider this part of the civil war or not, I think the book takes place before Rebels.

What Admiral Thrawn book?
I think they will give us at least some of the prequel ships someday. Some of the prequel ships have already appeared in the RPG and I would be shocked if none appeared in Armada. I would personally love CIS and Republic factions in Armada as long as thy fill out their ship inventories some (The smallest CIS warship seen onscreen is a large medium for example with most probably being Large base ships)
