Why Pick A Side?

By Beatty, in Star Wars: Armada

I could buy as many Imperial ships as I liked.....but unless they were Old Republic era ones I could repaint (Like the Acclamator) I know I'd just end up playing Rebels all the time. Dunno why, I just prefer the good guys.

As was stated already in the thread..... coming from a miniatures 'game' like 40k, stepping into x-wing/Armada is a breeze on the wallet comparatively.

It's still all expensive for sure.. But really that makes a huge difference for me.

$15 - $20 for an expansion ship/upgrade cards is practically unconsciously bought at that price. Especially after dropping $50 + on 5 models, on top of the other $250 spent(for books, rules, the rest of the models) just to get a playable 1500 pt army.

I'll be getting both factions.. I tend to be the backbone for most of these type of games for my group of friends.

Playing and getting are two different things. With X-Wing I never really play rebels (except on the occasional solo match, which never finishes, because I've given myself proof of concept, or I get bored), but I still have a fairly decent collection of them.

Why?

Initially because I thought I would be providing, but then my wife decided she wasn't that interested, and I branched out to the FLGS communities.

Nowadays, because of certain cards that you can't get with Imperial ships, and because I happen to see great deal on a rebel ship in order not to pay the whole hog for the single card. Or, as in the case with the Tantive IV, because I thought I would be playing some epic or campaign-style games (but didn't :( ).

I would buy both. Just to make sure I can always play a game regardless of what other people bring.

I can see it now, 12 people show up to a toruny, and all but one are using Imperial, because it is the most powerful against Rebels

:P

But really, the Empire will have more Admirals then the Rebel Alliance for now. It is also the easiest to play right now so being a new game this will also be a big draw. But hey, that's how it is in the Star Wars universe.

Aye,

I'm really interested in the diversity of imperial ships/squadrons coming out in Wave 1, but I also know for a fact that at least 80% of my local group is going to swarm to the empire (******* star destroyers, man, can you blame them?)

Because of my 40k-induced phobia of mirror matches, I'm starting off Rebels by default (who do come out the gate with more flexibility than the empire thanks to the well-round Neb and X-wings, and who will also be getting some very cool **** Wave 1. I'm very excited to fly the AF ^_^ )

it's also just nice to have X-wings that actually function as kick-ass Jack of all Trades instead of glass cannons with too much glass, not enough cannon (stress wing Luke excluded, ofc)

Cost and the fact that I already play many other miniatures games. I elected to go for the Rebels because their playstyle seem to favour manouverability more than the Empire, even with the Wave 2 releases.

Sold some stuff and bought another MKII, GSD, both fighter packs and another CR90. Will sell more stuff for wave II. That puts me +1 ship Rebs over Imp, but I wanted to see what a CR90 "swarm" would do. It will balance back out in wave II when I pick up a handfull of Imperial raiders.

No one else around me seems too interested in the game so far so I'm going to rely on playing with family and any other poor sucker I teach the game too ;)
