Armada MicroHangars

By SirWillibald, in Star Wars: Armada

Ok, v1.2 is ready for download!

It includes a letter size file and a minor bugfix concerning the Neb-B artwork.

https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/115972/microhangars-core-set

The VSD page will still be cut off when printing (both letter and A4 version), but this time on purpose. See the BGG comment section for explanation, in short the paper edge is now identical with the box edge. Just cut all the way to to edge!

Please let me know of any problems concerning the letter version, I can't test it.

You will also find v1.0 of the GearBoxes:

Note that the pictures show prototypes, front and back are swapped.

More images showing the VSD GearBox and how to store everything inside will follow!

Thanks again for your great work on this. I'm just waiting on some cardstock now.

Nice one on the Gearboxes !

I printed, cut out and scored/folded all the needed hangers last night, tonight will be double-sided taping them together.

SirWillibald, you are AMAZING!

Super Thank you!

Yeay awesome!

Thanks guys, added a few more photos and two little videos to the BGG page, for those of you who need more previews.

Got my v1.2 hangars and gearboxes all printed and assembled for a single core set. Probably took me the length of two movies, but then again I'm kind of OCD about cutting exactly on the lines and I used a hobby knife instead of using scissors. They look great and seem sturdy. Thanks for the great work SirWillibald.

If anybody is interested, I used a three sided engineer's ruler to fold all of the creases upward (towards the printed dotted line) and then used that crease to fold it all of the way over in the other direction before gluing. It took a minute longer from having another step, but the results were quite precise.

btw, the victory gearbox's fold lines seem a lot darker than the rest of the boxes. Not a big deal, just thought I'd mention it in case you would like to fix it in the next version.

Good spot, thanks for the hint. Seems I forgot to reduce opacity. Will change this!

These are great! I'm gonna give them a go for my storage as I think it will be tough finding a single case that will accommodate all the various sizes of the components.

My only complaint, and it is not a huge one. I only wish it was more efficient with the squadrons. I don't have a printer, so trying to submit these files to places like Office Depot or Staples makes it tough as I have to pull the squadron pages out and then upload them multiple times. It would be even better if the file had boxes for each piece in the core set, already duplicated and such.

Thanks for all the hard work. Looking forward to the wave 1 expansions!

Thanks, man. And you know what: That's a very good point, I didn't at all take this into consideration. And the best part is: This can easily be fixed and won't hurt those people who print them out at home, they can just ignore the redundant pages (and I don't think anybody bothers with downloading about 2-3MB too much these days). And if you want to have them printed you have only one file to be printed and you're good.

Perhaps I was thinking too much X-Wingish, where everybody has a different amount of ships, but for Armada I think it's safe to assume that - at least for now - the majority of us will start with one core game and one of each wave 1 ships. Consider it changed with the next update, thanks for this helpful comment!

I already copied and amalgamated the pages I needed for 2 core sets, and submitted them for printing. But thanks for taking this into consideration. Should make it easier for people going forward!

To add, for me it would be great to have 1 file per SKU. Then, when I buy something I can upload that file and have it printed. Boom, boxes for everything I just bought. :)

Thank you for your great work

I have a request that you make larger boxes for several squadrons maxing the number of models to fit in a single page print single box

Sir Willibald,

Now that I have my boxes all assembled and figures stored away my cards are starting to feel neglected. Will they get some love in the near future with a fantastic Tuckbox Collection like you did for X-Wing? Thanks for the great work I really love these boxes.

*sigh* I knew this would come... ;)

Instead of words, take this little WIP picture:

unbena12.jpg

Unfortunately no real photo this time, my printer died last week shortly after my last MicroHangar prototype :(

Have to buy a new one first. And I don't have sleeves at the moment, so I can't check if this prototype will fit the damage deck, even if I could print.

So, give me a new printer a few more days and I'll start my Armada TuckboxCollection with this one.

And most important: Thank you for your kind words!

Tuck box looks great and really appreciate all the work you are putting into this. I'd like to make a small request if I may? You mentioned that the tuck box will be for cards with sleeves - any chance of a version made to fit just the cards without sleeves please? I have found that a stack of small cards (i.e. damage deck) in sleeves tend to slip off the pile so I leave my damage deck unsleeved.

These are great thanks for your work

Finally got all mine made for my two core sets and stored away. Still plenty of room in the one core box they fit in so hopefully (fingers crossed) wave 1 orders will fit in with them too.

Only problem I ran into was the VSD gear box was a little flimsy across the front (wanted to puff out) so I put an extra bit of paper glued to that side (the only stock I could find was 176 g/m2 so maybe a little light). Also the first one I made didn't do so well when my Great Dane laid down on it when I went to get the VSD off the shelf in the next room seconds after I made it.... so not so much dog proof... :P

As for my cards I just use a Magic the Gathering 2 deck box, the back flap pulls off the back wall and fits the ship cards perfectly while the 2 deck slots fit the squadron cards and damage decks separately This one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HWSE9QY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Then that fits well in the core set

I was planning on making my own simple tuck boxes for the cards. Glad to see a spruced up version is on the way!

Just had to chime in and throw in some words of encouragement and thanks to this truly remarkable undertaking! :D :D :D

SirWillibald! You sir, are a hero among heroes amongst our Armada community!

Thank you so much for your generosity and time! Will definitely take you up on your awesome hangars!

Guys, impossible to overstate - we need to throw more likes in this gentleman's direction!

Many many many thanks, SirWillibald! Your MicroHangars are simply GREAT! All I can offer in thanks is some photos of your boxes .... they're beautiful.

Hey, I wish you had a kick started page or something for all the work your doing would happily throw some $$$ your way for all the $$$ you are saving me.

A random selfish request. When Wave one hits for the fighter boxes, could you do the named pilots on two sheets then the no named ones on another, save me a couple of sheets of paper.

Whoa, everybody keep calm, one day away from this forum and I can't keep up with all your praise, and 'thank you'...

It's me who should be grateful, I had a great time reading all this stuff and am very happy that you like my work!

Shouldn't be a problem, at least for the damage deck. Consider it done.

I printed mine on 200g and had the same issues, that's what the last page in the pdf is for, to reinforce the VSD box with an additional layer of cardstock (top, front and back).

And sorry for not making it dog proof, perhaps if you glue the cardstock on a 5mm steel plate first?

But wait, this would need new measurements... I'll see to it right after wave 5! ;)

Thank you for those nice words, I'm really flattered. I encourage everybody with a BGG account to give the hangars a like over there, won't buy me anything but I get a good feeling. :)

More than enough, thank you, nice to see!

That's really nice, but I suppose this would get me some serious legal issues with FFG since I used their graphics. I think they turn a blind eye to this and similiar projects by other fans as long as nobody tries to make monkey that way. I'm perfectly fine with this, since they could forbid things like that completely.

Concerning your request:

This won't be a problem, seems reasonable anyway. This way you don't have to use the named pilot noxes.

Started assembling mine tonight. Forgot how much work it is! Haha. It might take me 2 full nights to get both of my core sets boxed. Should probably start with 1 and go from there.

You get faster along the way, believe me. :)

Anybody fancy another preview? Just thought about the wave 1 squadrons and that it might not be so easy to find decent pictures for the little artwork. Well, that was right in some cases, but after all:

Height still the same as core game squadron boxes, will wait til wave 1 arrives.

v1.2 of the GearBoxes ix ready to download on BGG:

https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/115972/microhangars-gearboxes#comment5404906

Only minor changes:

- Opacity of VSD box outlines changed to 50% to match the other boxes

- Added "3 Command Tokens" to the content list, forgot about them. Box size unchanged, three more tokens fit anyway.

- German VSD box had a misplaced title.

Don't look for v1.1, skipped this because reasons.
