Armada MicroHangars
Just wanted to say thanks, if I haven't already. I've really appreciated these.
Alright everybody, grab your cardstock, turn on your printer and head over to:
The wave 1 squadron hangars are ready for download!
Edited by SirWillibaldThat was much faster than expected, and your own website to boot. Very impressive. I'll download and begin crafting later today. Thanks.
Oh man, I really need to get my printer back up and running. I've bought and returned two different storage solutions that I didn't like for Armada. Will have to make these. Love the simplicity.

Staples, office max, kinko will print cardstock and it's not terrible for prices.
These are great.
Couple questions:
-- say I'd like my boxes a little oversized, simply for the ease of stuffing them (I don't like fighting with 50+ slippery criticals trying to jam them in there). How much of an increase to the print size do you think would work? Like... 110% maybe?
-- would you be able to easily produce bigger/deeper/more generic box templates? For example, I find the squadron card box perfect, since I only have like 8 or 10 or however many cards to put in there. On the other hand, with 2 of every rebel ship and spring kit alt cards I'm now verging on 20+ ship cards. I'd love a box deep enough to fit them all in without causing a ruckus and further mangling the lip of the box every time. How about generic boxes for people who don't mind Rebs and Imps mingling, and are looking to maximize their storage space?*
* It's quite possible that I just didn't look closely enough, and the deeper boxes are already available.

The ship card boxes come in slim and deeper versions already.
Everything is looking great. I have all my microhangers and gear boxes set, the dice box, damage deck box (the fancy one) and the ship card box. Waiting patiently for the Gladiator microhanger.
I used microhangers for all the ace squadrons. I haven't done the regular squadrons (I have 28). I may do a simple divider set up in one of the carrier boxes for those. But I have everything neatly organized and fitting easily in the original Armada box.
Fleet happily in Sir Willibald's work:
- 3 Victory-class Star Destroyers
- 2 Gladiator-class Star Destroyers (waiting for hangers, but gear in boxes!)
- 4 TIE Interceptors
- 4 TIE Bombers
- 4 TIE Advanced
- 16 TIE Fighters
These are great.

-- no rule of thumb, sorry, but you only need to do a little math. Take your desired new width (heigth, depth) and compare it to the original (by measuring), then you can calculate your percentage
-- as stated above, they already come in two sizes. As soon as anybody exceeds this, I'd be glad to make even deeper boxes. Just drop me a note!

Cool, and thanks for the praise! And concerning the GSD / Mk II: Rumor has it that wave 1 will arrive in germany on June, 18th. Presumably...
For anyone who cares,
This paper is great ! It's 216GSM
And feels better than the 200. If you score your fold lines with a razor sharp knife, the boxes come out feeling as good as a retail box. This paper also seems to be easier to locate, and cheaper on a per sheet basis than 200GSM paper.
*edit* Also this paper flows through tray feeders just fine as it is designed for them. You don't have to feed it through the single sheet feeder that most card stock needs to be sent through. I ran mine through This Printer
*edit* I'm thinking of trying to do a modpodge application over the external facing surfaces to see if I can achieve that "plastic coating" feel you get from retail boxes. However i"m not sure if that will work as modpoge tends to soak into things prior to setting if the item is porous.
Edited by KilazarHey SirWillibald, I've got a question for you. But first, let me explain the situation:
I love all of your designs and after making several I decided that what I would really like is basically a MicroHanger/Gearbox in one for each ship. My thoughts are basically: Okay, I've got my list made. I need a Victory Star Destroyer. I grab my Victory Star Destroyer box, open it up, and BOOM, I have everything I need to fly it: model, base, token, dials, etc.
Rather than have you design such a box, since your list of requests is already miles high, I decided to go ahead and design my own. And I did. I have the CR-90, Nebby, and GSD all done except for the artwork, and the VSD just needs a couple tweaks and it will be done, except for the artwork, too.
Now, for the artwork, and my question: Would you mind if I copied the same artwork/styles that you used on your microhangars?
I will be posting my designs online (heck, I'd be thrilled if you felt like hosting them on your site, in a guest section or some such ) once I finish them, and I'd love it if they fit seemlessly with your designs, so that people could pick and choose which they wanted to use and it would all match. I have absolutely NO desire to rip off your hard work without permission or anything even remotely like that, which is why I'm asking. If you feel the least bit irritated by the idea of me copying the artwork on your designs, just say so and I'll do something completely different.
Just let me know. Thanks.

Hi,
already sent you a email, after I've found your old mail in my spam folder a few days ago. Didn't arrive? If not, PM me your mail adress!

Nope, I didn't get it. Try this email address: [email protected]
EDIT: Typoed my email addess
Edited by HerowannabeYes, it should, just take the thickest paper your printer can handle. My Canon Pixma for example has no problem to print the boxes on 200g/m2 paper, which should be easy to get. I heard that some printers can even handle 300g/m2, but 200g is a really good start. If the VSD hangar turns out to be not sturdy enough you can glue the wall enforcements inside. You find them in the BGG file, as well, just print them on the same paper. These are very awesome.Question: I've never made anything like this before; what paper is suggested? Should it work with any printer?
I've just got hold of some 160gsm, should be OK for the smaller ships. I'll have a play at the weekend and report back
Sorry, forgot to say... 160gsm came from Amazon.Co.UK, £2.85 for 50 sheets
Going to use a Brother 2030 series laser

You're probably better off buying in bulk. I got a half ream (250 sheets) at Office Depot for about $15.00. I've gone through about half of it already, and nearly all of it has been used on the microhangars.
Wow, how big is hour fleet?
I was only getting a small supply to test though, I think 160g may be a bit on the light side, for my VSDs I'll obviously need to be on the Dark side.
Sorry!
For the Medium and Large ships I am thinking of using Foamboard instead. The stuff is easy to cut, and is about 6mm thick. I made some boxes with lids for my AF2 and GSD and holds it's shape better while protecting the stuff inside.

You're right, foamboard is more sturdy. Was thinking about this myself but in the end the 200gsm (110 lb index) was even easier to use and offers enough protection for my needs. Of course I've used the supplied reinforcements for the VSD hangar, which I recommend (it's not difficult, you can even apply those to a finished box).

Yes, you can run quickly out of cardstock. I just finished my 250 sheet pack I've bought only a few month ago, but about half of the paper was wasted for prototypes.

Sorry!
3 VSDs, 1 GSD (going to order two more soon), 2xAF2, 3xNeb-B, 3xCR90, 52 fighter squadrons (2xCore Set, 2xIFS, 2xRFS). I will probably be getting another IFS and RFS pack, too. The squadrons are in carrier boxes, and I have my cards in boxes, too.
Hello SirWilli
Many thanks for your excellent work. Can hardly wait for your Gladiator and AFII boxes! Though I can imagine the wait must be harder for you to finally have the German versions in your hands....
I have a small question: Since I have 3 of each Wave 1 squadrons, my plan was to store the aces in their boxes with their tokens and put all of these in a microhangar. Would it be possible to make stickers to put on the hangars?

And yes, that's possible, in fact I intend to do a little redesign of the squadron boxes once wave 1 arrived here. You noticed that the named squads are already marked? I was going to enhance this marking by putting it on every side and adding the pilot names. Would that be enough for you?
Hey guys, with the release of Wave 2 is there any chance we will see new hangers for those ships? No rush, just curious, I love the hangers and use them extensively right now for all of my wave 1 stuff!

Can't speak for all the guys around but I happen to be on rather friendly terms with the creator...
Of course there will be hangars for wave 2, problem is, the ships aren't available yet in germany and I can't afford buying both the english and the german version (my boys insist on having the german version) so you have to wait until they have arrived here. Even more unfortunately, at the moment it looks like they won't be available at the same time as the english version
So unless you intend to have an english version shipped to me I'm sorry to tell you that you'll have to wait for the german release. I'll keep you posted about the ETA!
