Why are we playing with Tarkin yet?

By Hrathen, in Star Wars: Armada

I see a lot of people have posted that they are using Tarkin in their lists. But they only have one VSD. I'm not sure what the point of taking Tarkin is since his ability buffs ships that he is not on. What am I missing?

None of the other commanders are out yet for Imperials - It's not out of desire, it's out of nessecity. Besides, Tarkin is always good. He simply becomes better with more ships.

He also buffs all friendly ships - A ship is friendly to itself. Thus he buffs his own ship as well

Tarkin doesn't say other friendly ships, only friendly ships.

That means he effects the ship he is on, the same way that Jan (crew) does. Unless FFG is going to use a completely different definition for Friendly in Armada than they do X-Wing.

Tarkin is, at the moment, required. Your fleet must include exactly one Commander, and he is the only Imperial option in the core set, ditto for General Dodonna with the Rebels.

He's the only commander available, and you have to take one so your kinda stuck with him

Yeah, Tarkin definitely effects his own ship. He's also amazing, even on just a single ship. He gives the Imperials a ton of flexibility.

So Tarkin effects his ship too.
