Cygnus Xg-1 Starwing (Assault Gunboat) and GAT-12h Skipray Blastboat

By Nephentur, in X-Wing

Having some downtime allowed me to catch up with some long overdue painting of some of Mel's minis for my Imperial Fleet - and S&V in the second case. I am far from the level of you guys normally posting in here so be lenient (and I haven't done any beauty shots on my play mat yet).

Note to those who wonder: all models are Frosted Ultra Detail.

Edit: Somehow uploading from my mobile didn't like the photos. Second try.

Awesome. I just ordered two Assault Gunboats from Mel myself, so im looking forward to getting them and painting them.

Awesome, thanks for posting those. Love the yellow stripes on the skipray.

For anyone interested, I have just released the Gunboats in Armada size :P

Very nice.

Mel's work is pretty **** good but you might want to check out Gosric's stuff before you place an order... just to make themost educated decision possible.

Seconding this, as the two have different styles. I prefer Mel's Skipray and Gosric's gunboat, haha.

Beautiful stuff. Almost makes me want a gunboat...almost. I personally can't wait to get my haul from Mel's. I've got a Colonial Viper and a Naboo N-1 coming. So excited to paint those.

Nice. I like both Mel and Gosric's work. Would very much like to have a Preybird starfighter, but Gosric's fuselage is a bit too long and the cockpit too small IMO.

Update. Here are some more shots on a playmat together with my Stormtrooper Transport and Assault Transports

Those look awesome. Now I'm considering snagging one of the Assault Transports myself

Amazing work. It's like the TIE fighter game flying on your table.

Thanks so much, Nightshrike.

That was PRECISELY my intent :-D To complete TIE Fighter I still need to add Missile Boats and TIE Avengers (already bought). T-Wings and R-41 Starchasers currently on the painting table.

My pleasure seeing your work. Looking at those Gunboats, you almost make me want one, and they were never my favorite, but yours look just fabulous. I'd be really happy to see those on a gaming table around here, let me tell you.

Can't wait to see what you do with the rest of the ships. Which Avenger did you go with? The squinty cockpit or the ball cockpit? I'd never seen the ball cockpit version, but I must confess I like it better.

Squinty (oval) cockpit. Really prefer it over the totally round one.

Finally someone who agrees with me!

The squinty one was the one from the game, but there is something about the ball cockpit that appeals. Not sure why.

Because it looks like a TIE with a proper ball cockpit?

Maybe it does but as someone who still plays the game about once a year I just can't stand any variant except for the original Avenger from TIE Fighter. It's just...better fitting. It shows that it was a gradual process from the Advanced x1 over the x2 and the x3 to the Avenger.

Do you get the same thing with the TIE defender? That was very different in the flight sim.

Well the only thing I found really peculiar about the TIE Defender was that it wasn't a "TIE" per se as it had three ion engines rather than two. You might say "Triple Ion Engine" instead of "Twin Ion Engine", but maybe that's just me being pedantic.

Nevertheless the Defender is one of my favourite Imperial Fighters. The squinty Avenger is top tier in terms of styling, then Defender. So basically until FFG brings out the Avenger I will fly my Advanced x1 with Mel's Avenger minis and Vaders TIE will stay in its box. Form over function! ;-)

OMG! You just blew my mind. Now I need to get a Mel's minis avenger (with the ball cockpit, sorry) for Juno Eclipse. That is the perfect accessory for her. She is going to be so cool...

Yeah sorry, my obsessive-compulsive geek might be showing in that post :-D
