Future expansions for Talisman ?

By korneelt, in Talisman

Just like Spectrum said,4 new lairs to explore with epic bosses at the end.2 inner boards,one lair each side.Or any small expansion is a welcome.The reaper,blood moon,harbinger are my favorites.

I would like Timescape to be a game of it's own though, based on Talisman mechanic of course.

As Artaterxes pointed out - this game exists: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/relic/ :)

Relic is limited to the warhammer 40k universe and factions oriented.I want a real space adventure game with much more diverse locations, events,planets exploration, time traveling,etc.A board as big as both Talisman and Relic but more similar design wise to Timescape or Merchants of Venus or even Eldritch Horror.

A classic characters expansion would also be great. Would love to see the following characters back in the game:

Centaur

Ninja

Orc

Samurai

Soldier

Warrior of Chaos

Witch Doctor

Woodsman

Nomad Games has released various individual characters for the digital edition and they can be purchased at 1.99 (EUR) each. I'd pretty much prefer to pay this amount per character for an actual miniature and character card.

Ninja is back for Digital Edition.

Samurai and Witch Doctor are on the coming soon list along with many old favorites like the Barbarian.

Perhaps an expansion which has a theme but adds cards to all decks. It could update the Wanted Posters to all creature types and maybe a few special effect posters such as a particular dragon etc. There could be new Spells, all the Adventure Decks would be added to and permanent rune gates (like the homebrew) could be included.

Thinking about it this could be a homebrew expansion :)

I would like to see the dynamics of Blood Moon 'revisited' in the same way Terrain cards were between Firelands and Harbinger. New Lunar Events! More undead and such.

If Dragons have their own realm or region, why don't Giants?

PODs or expansions that give more play to spaces like the Castle (secret passage-ways to other boards?, Royal Stables with some new type of horses and gear?), Cursed Glade (new portals between boards, new magic/cursed items to be gained, etc.)

More stranger, enemy, follower, place etc cards derived from classic sources, including mythologies from everywhere when contextually possible.

If Dragons have their own realm or region, why don't Giants?

I like the concept

I would like this especially if they also included updated cards for the base game (i.e., making potion of strength and magic ring into trinkets). This was done for BSG with the Pegasus expansion.

As for more characters, I don't know. It's really not the same without the minis. I could always use more alternate endings though but like my wish that they'd publish one last Arkham Horror expansion that included a ton of Heralds, I doubt it'll happen.

For next big expansion I would like:

- alternative main board. Basically the same, but two-sided, one side for easy and quick game, other side for long and difficult game.

some ideas for easy game:

* on crags and forest if you roll 2 you lose turn, if you roll 3-5 you draw a card

* sentinel has strength 6

* chasm kills on 1

* roll 2 dice in mines and crypt

* prices in village -1

* black knight has strength 8, you don't auto-lose

hard game:

* vampire tower takes 2-5 lifes

* abyss has strength 8 demons

* can't spend fate at dice with death

* some other method of determining werewolf den's strength

- maybe minor adjustment to some spaces, maybe some alternative art.

- maybe new purchase cards

- a rulebook of alternate rules to try out

For next small exansion I want master level characters, complete with adventure cards that make them obtainable

For next POD i'm thinking a river expansion - a small deck of 30 cards you draw whenever you cross the river.

Yes! That! :) Join the Crusade Through Stars!!

Can I haz pleez the HIGHLAND WOODLAND expansion thank you will give cookies and/or money

Umm... You want just a higher forest with taller trees? ;p

Whatever it takes to get the Highland Woodland version of Deep Realms!

My guess is it would be the next one and probably later this year.

Although I want the same treatment; something that can "bridge" the Woodlands and the Highlands, I would not mind if it broke any expectations:

Possible tie-in with the Graveyard and/or Blood Moon, that is taking advantage of Undead, Spirits, more hidden cemeteries. "the Haunted Realm".

Of course, I did mention Giants, several posts ago, and Giants would be at home in the mountains *or* Tall Trees, so maybe the corollary to the Wraith/Rat Queen's treasure room would be a Giants treasure room!

What ever it is, I do await it as well, and hope it comes with the end of year or early 2016.

I think it would be cool if they shared the same bridge deck. The other deck can be unique.

Still want the water expansion before we end up talking about a new edition.

Interesting that you bring up a go-between with the Highlands and Woodlands. Would be easy to POD with an easy profit for FFG, rabid fans would pick it up right away, and for those bitten by the Talisman bug as the build their collection it would help push them to buy both big box expansions to connect it.

Would also add yet another awesome place to explore, while keeping down on the board clutter...although if you have all the expansions in play you are pretty much past that...

Every time I see someone's talisman setup I notice that they do not play with the Dragon expansion. Does everybody hate this expansion except me?

I think it's quite natural not to include an epic-level expansion every time. The Dragon makes up for a different game and somehow replaces all the rest of Talisman. It also doesn't allow you to play with all Alternative Endings. When I play with Dragon, I tend to reduce setup to a minimum, using no more than 1 corner. For the above reasons, for me Dragon is something I play only once in a while.

Of course, if someone uses good house rules, Dragon can be less overwhelming and play well along with other components. It's just that the standard rules don't support that.

The Dragon is my favorite! Rules as written!

We always use the Dragon expansion but we take serious steps to "un-epic" it. 2 player game, and we usually go until one clearly wins or the other dies (no new character) after some amount of play. The only thing that is epic in our games is they tend to last several hours as we mostly divide and conquer, we rarely stay in the same region or realm as each other.

Our House Rules with Dragon. No scales are pulled until after the first Dragon is encountered anywhere/region. Once a character has done so, win or lose, the pulling of scales begins. Flavor-concept: Dragons mostly ignore players/characters until they are first encountered anywhere in the playing boards .

Ignore all 'rage' scales until after the first time a Dragon is crowned. Also, when any Dragon Lord is crowned, do place a scale on the player's space, who drew the crowning scale. But discard all other scales from all Dragons and begin rebuilding towards another crowning. This keeps the turn over slower, which isn't necessarily a big advantage but we like this.

With these house rules, Dragon blends in a little easier and becomes less of an Epic. Since we do use all expansions and therefore alt-endings, we just consider the hidden ending as another layer. If its Dragon related good, but we don't take it to seriously if The Eagle Lord seems to be big kahuna over the Dragons. Not much else needs house-ruling but maybe we haven't come up with all the possible complications yet. We only play once in a while, on average 6 to 8 weeks.
