Kavil's Mandolorian Corsairs (Y/Firespray/2Z list)

By Sekac, in X-Wing Squad Lists

34: Kavil w/ Predator, Autoblaster turret, Engine Upgrade, Unhinged Astromech

42: Mando-merc w/ K4 droid, Expert Handling

13: Binayre Pirate

13: Binayre Pirate

Total:100

I really like 4 ship lists and this is an easy transition from my rebels. This looks like a lot of fun, with boosting Y-wings, and barrel-rolling firesprays. Plus it's all PS 3+ so it'll deploy after a lot of lists out there.

Should be fun to dance around with normally clumsy ships, while tossing out really efficient short range fire.

Thoughts?

Why not, seems funny to play but maybe i would remove EH on Mando-merc 'cose berrel rolling the Firespray seems useless not having turret firing arc but "only" auxiliary firing arc. I Would put maybe any illicit up ( inertial dump overall ) and Rec Spec to manage attack and defense.

At this point, why not try Kath Scarlet? with HE or EU you can adjust the auxiliary friring arc to take +1 red dice

Barrel rolling on a firespray is not useless.

K4 security Droid is a good option to go with it

Is useless in my opinion, not in absolute -_-

I haven't yet tried expert handling on a firespray, but it seems like it has a lot of potential. In fact, I'd argue that it's more important when I only have an auxiliary arc than on a turreted ship. A turret is more likely to have a shot regardless, only Dash with HLC needs to barrel roll often.

I do like Kath but she'd be tough to fit in this list without leaching points from Kavil. If I dropped the Zs to PS1, and replaced the merc with Kath, I'd have 4 points for upgrades. Just engine upgrade? EH and tactician?

Anyway, I'm still at the exploration phase with scum. I'm going through and experimenting with new pilots every few battles. I've played Kath a number of times and it's time to move on to the next guy.

Got to play 2 games with this list tonight.

First:

Scimitar w/ clusters

Jendon w/ ST-321, weapons engineer, FCS, fleet officer

Vessery w/ ruthlessness, clusters

This is a whacky, action efficient list, but ultimately too many points sunk into target lock shenanigans. Both me and my opponent had a hard time keeping it all straight.

My opponent deployed centrally and I had kavil and the Zs on my left and the merc on the right. My opponent faked towards the Zs with the shuttle and bomber, then switched to the merc while vessery did the opposite. The firespray took a bit of a beating but dished it back on the shuttle and vessery lost his shields by some lopsided dice on a range 3 exchange with the Zs.

The bomber died early with efficient shooting from the mando and unstoppable shooting from kavil while the Zs took shots of opportunity on either the shuttle or vessery. Vessery kept trying to trigger ruthlessness, but couldn't land hits on those Zs. They were absolutely aces this game!

100-0 win

Next was against:

Oicunn w/ Dauntless, Daredevil, Engine

Howl Runner w/ Squad leader

Black TIE w/ wingman

Obsidian TIE

I built a tight cluster of asteroids in the center and put kavil through it, figuring oicunn would have his work cut out for him navigating through to try to bump kavil to death. Well I was wrong, and kavil got bumped to death in short order while only managing to drop the decimator's shields before he died.

The Zs and firespray went for the joust and got behind the decimator as it broke off to chase kavil. Damage stacked up quickly and its abundance of stress meant it wasn't firing back efficiently. Down it went.

The obsidian blocked early and got itself caught at range 1 from a Z and got knocked out. The two remaining TIEs were taking a toll on the firespray and pushed it into the board corner. He thought I was gonna turn away so he went to block, but I just pulled a 1 straight and blew the black TIE off the board. The Zs finished off Howlie.

100-34 Win

Thoughts and impressions:

So far this list is playing exactly how I want it to. Both Kavil and the firespray are scary targets and both slippery enough to make it tough to knock them out quickly. Meanwhile the Zs are ignored and able to nibble and bite away at the enemy.

I didn't get to play against lists comprised all or primarily of generics, nor did I play against predator so I didn't really get a chance enjoy the all PS 3+ aspect.

Definitely worth trying more.

barrel-rolling firesprays are the bee's ******* knees and the auxiliary arc is more than enough to absolutely abuse the crap out of it

it works well for increasing maneuverability and for setting up some absolutely disgusting blocks
