Extremely new player trying to make Scum lists!

By HoboDevil, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Howdy howdy. Well I just got into X-Wing when Scum came out and I've had a blast playing with them but I'm still newtarded so I would love advice/constructive criticism/pointandlaughatthenewguy!

Key points in what I've noticed so far from how I'd like to play and whatnot:

1) Laetin A'shera is my favorite pilot/ship. I absolutely love that one. The same 27 points goes into about anything I make

18 - Ship

2 - Heavy Scyk Interceptor

4 - Mangler Cannon

3 - Stealth Device

2) I really love the idea of Emon Azameen chucking bombs everywhere but I still don't understand ships and dials enough to properly take advantage of bombs. Someday!

3) My favorite ship aesthetically, hands down, is the Starviper. I've had mixed results so far using it in that I either chuck like 50 points into it or I feel like I wasted it to begin with.

4) I adore all the hwks.

Yeah, this is for lists not rambling, so I figure I'll churn out a couple of the lists I've tried and hope I'm not laughed off the proverbial stage just yet!

Prince Xizor

Stealth Device

Hot Shot Blaster

Virago

Sensor Jammer

Kavil

Determination

Salvaged Astromech

Ion Cannon Turret

Syndicate Thug

Ion Cannon Turret

The goal of this list, which I've yet to actually field for the record, is to keep the two beefy Y-Wings near the Prince for his ability to pass damage onto them while he does his thing. I put ion cannons on them pretty exclusively for their arc and to mitigate the opponents movements.

Palob Godalhi

Opportunist

Tactician

Autoblaster Turret

Laetin A'shera

Heavy Scyk Interceptor

Mangler Cannon

Stealth Device

Serissu

Heavy Scyk Interceptor

Mangler Cannon

Stealth Device

Squad Leader

Binayre Pirate

Feedback Array

This is a build I made to play against a friend of mine with the goal of having a few ships that don't seem altogether too intimidating with enough little tricks to zip around/debuff a bit to slowly gain the upper hand.

Lastly, I just like the idea of hurling Z-95s around so I made this as a "thematic" little squad that I've yet to test at all.

Binayre Pirate

Cluster Missiles

Feedback Array

Engine Upgrades

Binayre Pirate

Cluster Missiles

Feedback Array

Engine Upgrades

N'Dru Suhlak

Veteran Instincts

Feedback Array

Homing Missiles

Engine Upgrades

Kaa'to Leeachos

Veteran Instincts

Feedback Array

Homing Missiles

Engine Upgrades

The totally untested ideal behind this list is to zip in, get a nasty alpha strike and then either clean up the mess with feedback arrays or just try to out maneuver the opponent and finish the fight.

Well, sorry for the huge post and I hope the lists aren't so awful I owe you time for reading them haha. Good to meet'cha guys and take care! Thanks!

Hi. Welcome to the game. I'll post a bit on generalities and let you pick things up from there.

If you go with Xizor, you will want to probably have a bunch of generics to fly with him. His special ability is great to pass off onto Z-95's or Y-wings. I've got a list:

Xizor w/ Predator, Autothrusters, Title, and Adv. Sensors

3 x Z-95's

Torkhil Mux w/ Ion Turret

Xizor needs to do damage and he can always get his action with Adv. Sensor. Use him to take out priority targets. Torkhil can knock down enemy elites that are trying to joust. Z's just shoot at what they can, stay near Xizor, and block.

I like your Laetin build and think it needs something to attract attention to the rest of the list and not him. So, you can always go with Emon and his bombs. Make sure to throw in a few more enemy generics, too. This way Laetin can be ignored and snipe away. When it comes to learning Emon and his moves (as well as bombs), just go with it and try stuff out. Only way to learn is to just play a bunch of games. Kath Scarlet can also be a good ship to zip up fast and then go past them. You can shoot out the rear at people. Your opponent needs to make the choice of either going for Kath or going for Laetin.

I think Serissu works best when paired with one or two other important ships. Maybe a named Firespray of any type? This allows them to get better evade dice. Maybe have them use Recon Specialist as a crew for one Focus for offense and one for defense. It works well on Firesprays, but with Serissu, it's even better.

I say when you build a list, you have to look at what will cause your damage. Or how will they interact with each other. If you don't have anything that is the big threat that will deal the monster damage, then you might be picked apart without being able to cripple your enemy's ships. Or know what it is that they will focus on when you fight, so your other ships can either take advantage of that or support the main threat somehow (blocking, special abilities, etc).

Hope this helps in some regard! Play a bunch of games and try things out. Remember that you learn more from losing than winning, so don't feel bad about losing much at the beginning!

Rule #1 of modifications

if you can take auto-thrusters, ******* take auto-thrusters. You need only one trigger for it to have been worth it over the unreliability of a stealth device.

Anyway, if you like Laetin and you like Starvipers, you're just not going to use Xizor. Dude loves beefy, expendable meat-shields allies to hide behind fly alongside of (though really, his ability is so defensively potent that you'll often have him at the front, in range 1 of the enemy, just daring them to shoot him instead of a more easily hit Z-95 or Y-wing) and expensive, low durability pilots are the exact opposite of what you want to pass damage off to.

So, we're going to Guri (not a bad prospect, more like a ******* badass one)

Guri (predator, auto-thrusters) is a right solid and incredibly deadly little outfit and one of the most consistently reliable pilots I've had the pleasure of flying

slot her in with Laetin (heavy scyk, mangler, hull) which I'm not a fan of, but hey preference is subjective, and you'll have 38 points left over. which is enough for 3 pirates and one feedback array.

Should be a nice, simple, and solid list to get to grips with your favorite ships.

Now, if you like HWKs, I've been having a blast with

Seri (PTL, title, mangler, shield)

Palob (determination, blaster, recon, crow)

Pirate X 3

still needs tinkering as I'm sure there's some upgrade combination I haven't considered yet, but it is hilarious fun

I have 2 scum lists that I would like to maybe try someday, but haven't got a chance yet:

Laetin's Corsairs:

Laetin A'shera w/ title, mangler & stealth = 27

Cartel Spacer w/ title & mangler = 20

Torkhil Mux w/ ion turret, inertial dampeners & moldy crow = 28

Syndicate Thug w/ title, ion turret & R4 agromech = 25

2 ions for control + 2 manglers for damage. Line them up together (preferrably pin-wheel if you can swing it) with thug in front of torkhil and spacer in front of Laetin.

Prince of Thieves:

2 Binayre Pirates w/ Feedback array = 14 x 2

Palob Godalhi w/ Opportunist, blaster turret, recon spec & moldy crow = 34

Prince Xizor w/ Push the Limit, title & advanced sensors = 38

You could drop one Feedback for autothrusters on Xizor if you like. The nice thing about this list is Xizor, your closer, will not draw much attention because your opponent needs to kill Palob asap. That lets you fly Xizor and the pirates really aggressively. You want to keep them close together when Palob dies, so that Xizor's ability keeps him safe until the endgame where hopefully Xizor can shine. Don't use Push the Limit much (in fact, its mostly for the endgame) or if you have the opportunity to 1 bank or green straight, use it with advanced sensors so after the move you clear the stress immediately.
