Flagship, What's It Good For?

So after reading the Rules and the Objectives I noticed something that was mildly humorous to me. Aside from the Flagship being the ship that has the Commander on it it has no other purpose in the game right now.

I wonder why they didn't just say one ship must be equipped with a Commander rather than going through the trouble of making up a Flagship rule then explaining how that ship is the one with the Commander.

It's just a dumb silly observation but it did make me go Hmmmmm....

Flavor.

If everyone playing a session knows ship A is your flagship, they know where to direct the big guns ;)

Well, except the rebels, who don't have big guns (thumbs nose) :P

"Jerkins, why am I not seeing the Enemy? And what is that explosion noise coming from the rear?"

And didn't Han out manouver an ISD by drifting lazily to the left? :P

Ok. Just a note though, let's talk in a month about those Big-Guns and see how they are working out for you.

Nah, he landed on it. And let's be fair, nobody but Han would have had the stones to try that.

possible bonus points in scenarios for destroying flagships? (not in the core objectives I dont think)

Can't remember where, but sure I read somewhere that some objectives will refer to flagships. Does this mean they did and have been changed, or that new objectives will be added at a later date?

They do, in a sense. You get the points for their upgrades - notably including their commander. Plus they lose the huge bonus granted by their commander. Plus they probably lose their most powerful ship.

So from a gameplay aspect, the flagship is pretty huge, even if the title might seem slightly superfluous.
