Thoughts on an older squadron in a newer meta

By ImperialAce93, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey all, so as an imperial player, I recently picked up a Firespray and am enjoying it as it's completely different than the Decimator and other ships I enjoy flying. So I've been trying to come up with a list that kinda looks at the new meta and come up with a decent counter. So my local meta is very diverse, but in the last store championship I saw a ton of big ships, and I didn't have a way of controlling them. So with that in mind, here's the list:

Krassis Trelix - Firespray

Heavy Laser Cannon

Recon Specialist

PS4 Bomber (can't remember the name)

Ion Pulse Missiles

Proximity Mine

Academy Pilot - Tie Fighter

Stealth Device

Academy Pilot - Tie Fighter

Stealth Device

100 points

The stealth device on the academy pilots is because I had 6

points, and really it just makes the ties that much more annoying. And it's easier to put them into range 1 and not have them just get destroyed before they fire once. So please help me out here. Ideas how to run it. Where to cut back points? I like the 2 blockers so that's why I would prefer academy pilots

I'd put engine upgrade on Krassis.

I'd also put munitions failsafe on the bomber.

That is 5 points so I would drop off the stealth device on the academys. They will go down for sure and that is 6 points they won't get from them.

I'm not sold on stealth device unless it also has autothrusters which you can't put on the Academys anyway. To give you an example, I was at a store championship recently and ran up against 4 m3-as with stealth device. I stripped them off first shot and dispatched the last of the lot in the 3rd round.

This gives you a total of 99 points.

BTW, I usually run a squad with a Firespray-31 which has become my favourite ship in the game and can now be run in S&V too!

My preference on the imperial side is Kath Scarlet with predator, Mangler Cannon and either recon spec or rebel captive.

I also recently got a Firespray and ran a Krassis list. (See recent post) and I really enjoyed it.

I agree the SD on the Tie's seems a bit excessive as they are there to block and be annoying. I like Ynot's suggestion of a EU on Krassis, seems like it could be fun.

can't say about the escort, but Krassis still has a place in the game since his HLC is still absolutely deadly. I would not recommend engine upgrade since it makes him prohibitively expensive and cuts down far too much on his offensive. Firesprays are not easy to fly so they take getting used to, but unless you're in S&V you don't have the action efficiency to spend it on post-maneuver actions.

I saw Krassis place high in the most recent store championship, running HLC & tactician with a Saber Squadron (PTL + thrusters) and Thurr (lone wolf +thrusters)

the stealths are definitely unnecessary (you'd be better off with naked bombers, imo) and the upgrade to the PS 4 Gamma is imo not worth it over the scimitar.

if large ships are getting you down, I think just having more fighters would serve you better than a one shot ipm. You can run four Academies with Krassis for 94 points, which leaves you enough for Nightbeast with 3 obsidian Ties for predator protection and anti-swarm potential (and if Krassis hates anything, it's swarms)

A Tie Bomber just for the Ion Pulse is not worth it. You can stick that on the Firespray if you want. I love Bombers, but that's too many points into a one shot. You could always give the Bomber more ordnance. If you shoot at Concussion Missile with a Focus, you have a 94% chance of getting at least 3 hits.

So I dont think engine upgrade is the way to go on a PS firespray. I have definitely cut down the gamma to the scimitar ( I might as well use the alt art card at some point.) So I also don't think the Autothrusters are as good as people make them out to be...they aren't god like, but yes, they do help a bit. The bomber is also there to take done of the fire away from Krassis. I usually run 3 academies and dark curse (my favorite of the tie fighter pilots) with Krassis, but Krassis turns into the main target. I figure if I can make my opponent have to pick one, the other will survive longer. If they end up splitting fire that works too.
