Yes - once the number of damage cards equals or exceeds the hull value of the ship it is destroyed - core rules page 13
in the situation you describe you may be getting a little bit confused, if you have shields remaining they are always removed first whenever you receive damage.
in your case if you still have a shield left if there is only 1 uncanceled hit (in this case a critical it seems) you simply remove the last shield counter, you do not draw a damage card unless you only have hull points left.
Edit:
So to actually answer your question, assuming I am reading it right, you simply remove the shield counter and don't draw any damage cards, and your ship gets to keep on fighting.

You got caught by a Proton Bomb? Aside from that everything an opponent can currently do to your ship has to get through shields first before dealing cards. Even [crit] results outside of attacks would have to remove shields before dealing you cards.
Unless you were hit by a proton bomb there shouldn't have been a faceup damage card. If you suffered one uncanceled hit or crit, you should have lost a shield token and that's all. Once your shields are gone then you start dealing damage cards. If you took a hit and a crit, the hit would take out the shield and the crit would deal a card. And if the card was a Direct Hit, then you'd be destroyed.
Suffering damage is different from being dealt damage cards.
Suffering damage removes a shield token first and foremost until all shield tokens are gone. Then once the shields are gone for each regular damage/hit your ship is dealt one facedown damage card and for all critical damage/hits is dealt one face up damage card. You suffer all regular damage before critical damage first.
There are certain situations when you are dealt a damage card instead of suffering damage which ignores shield tokens (i.e. Proton Bombs, Jek Porkins). Now suffering damage can turn into dealing damage cards once shields are all gone. When you are dealt a face down damage card it counts as 1 damage against your ship's hull value. When you are dealt a face up damage card resolve the effect immediately unless something states otherwise (such as Chewbacca).
Once your damage equals or exceeds your hull value that ship is destroyed even if there were shield tokens left on it. So if a proton bomb catches a Z-95 headhunter and deals a face up direct hit which counts as 2 hull damage the Z-95 is destroyed even if it had 2 (or more) shields left.
Edited by MarinealverIf you want crazy just consider that Corran could be equipped with a Shield Upgrade and R2D2 to recharge those four shields as they are lost yet one Proton Bomb can end him despite having 4 shields.
I believe Porkins is currently the only other way to directly be dealt a card and he only does it to himself. There are a couple ways to get Shield tokens back which could leave a ship with damage cards beneath them and those cards would be subject to getting flipped. Interestingly if you had a damage card on a ship with shields and then flipped it up (Saboteur) you could see a Minor Explosion or Console Fire which results in suffering a [boom] result which then takes out a shield token; flip over Direct Hit and it's like you've gained another card.
