Help me understand the new obstacle rules because I'm stupid

By Bloodstripe Baron, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So for a tournament, like list bulding, you choose three obstacles to bring. They can't be the same.

You and your opponent each supply 3 obstacles making 6 like normal and everything is placed as it used to be.

Now here's where I have questions. What if you and your opponent bring the same obstacle? Who replaces? Does this mean you need to bring up to 3 more reserve obstacles?

Nobody replaces. Duplicates are permitted so long as your 3 are unique.

That would make sense. That's whatvi get for reading the obstacle rules under my desk at work.

Read rules under the desk? Thats a novel isea...that is usually where I do my drinking ;)

Why are you hiding under your desk?

Probably more effective than hiding on top of his desk.

I'm getting a George Costanza picture going on in my head here. Careful with the ticking alarm clock.

Yup, only your 3 obstacles have to be unique to the other two obstacles you bring. Which means there can be 2 big asteroid tokens in the play area.

There cannot be 3 or more big asteroid though because that would require a player bringing a copy of an obstacle token they already selected.

So it is now a lot like squad building. After you make your squad you take the 6 asteroid tokens from the core set, and if you have the 3 debris clouds from the YT-2400 expansion pack and/or the 3 debris clouds from the VT-49 Decimator expansion pack you can place them with the 6 asteroid token. Out of those possible 6/9/12 tokens you may have, you must select 3 of them. If all you have are asteroids from the core set then you are selecting 3 rocks. You cannot include copies of the tokens so say you don't have a YT-2400 but have 2 VT-49 Decimators you can only chose from the three debris clouds tokens from a single VT-49 Decimator pack.
