Expansions for campaign

By Reiryc, in Imperial Assault Campaign

I don't expect to play skirmish games much if at all. So I'm not worried about upgrades and the like for skirmish play.

Do those you who have expansion packs feel it is worth it for the campaign game and if so, why? Also if you don't think it's worth it, why?

One example: they sell a general Weiss expansion pack. The core already has a card for general Weiss and an at st figure. So aside from a single additional side mission map, why spend $15ish dollars for that 1 map?

I think you'll find that more people are interested in the skirmish mode around here (and the expansions are pretty cool for that purpose), but personally I'm with you on that - I bought the game to play campaigns with family, so...

I have a collector mentality anyway, so getting all the figures is a must - but every new campaign mission adds a new element to campaign mode that I haven't seen yet, so I'd have to say it is definitely worth it. But like I said, I have to have the figures, too. If I were strapped for cash and I didn't care about the figures, I could see how it would be a tough decision if I'm only interested in campaign...

Thanks for response: the new element to the campaign mode is what, a new map? Anything else new that it gives?

You get side mission cards for the new maps - the ability for you to 'win' that ally as part of your potential deployment (at least on the rebel side, I think it's similar for the imperial side with the Agenda missions). Just like you can 'win' Vader and have him in all of your open groups, you can 'win' the other imp figures in those side missions, etc...

Even for the campaign game, tokens that represent figures are dumb. Models all the way!

oh I see... so these characters can't be 'won' without the expansion pack? Like, I can't win ig 88 for the imperial side without the expansion pack?

Exactly, you can't get the Villain without their pack. As to your first question, the rebel troopers pack has an awesome campaign side mission. I also really like the agendas in the Royal Guard Champ.

aha! ok, now it means that there is really a good use to getting the expansions for campaigns.

I had guessed we could get the character since the card existed in the core game, but it must just exist for skirmish play.

darn, more money sinks!

If you are not the Imperial player, do not read what is in the spoiler tag.

Actually, there are several missions where the people from the Ally and Villain packs show up in the campaign, even though you don't have the ability to get them as villains. That's where you use the cardboard tokens, and where the tokens will look a lot prettier.
