need a solution

problem: my gaming party is breaking up due to moving away from the region but would like to keep playing. i reckon an online format would be the only way to facilitate this. but how? i am looking for something that would have to be able to present maps, artwork, writings; have a dice roller and be able to use voice. i have seen a few virtual tabletops but am unsure if they are worth the effort and would only cause more problems. has anyone had any experience in this that can be imparted to me. i'm running a core i7 with 12 gigs of RAM with a powerful new vidcard on WIndows 7 RC. all the other members have current computer tech also some using a windows environ, 2 uses a MAC.

Well, RPOL.net is a PbP site, and you'd be able to do everything other than use voice, but you could use teamspeak or ventrillo with it, and it'd work fine.

Not sure if there are any proper programs that can do all of what you want though.

Hi,

I would recommend Fantasy Grounds + Skype for voice. I believe there is even a Fantasy Grounds ruleset out for Dark Heresy already.

I have not used it in your configurations though.

Otherwise you might have to resign yourself to Forum based or Play by Email?

OpenRPG for gaming, dice-rolling and map-showing etc. Ventrilo for talking. Works like a charm. happy.gif

so it makes you immune to random sniper shots?

Fantasy Grounds is 'spensive though. It looks interesting however.

thank u all for support and advice...

i'll have a deeper look at them all.

cheers

I actually did this with my group - none of us live remotely near one another. We did the entire thing through ventrillo. Everyone rolled their own dice and kept their own stats, with a copy posted on a message boards so the profiles were visible to one another. Any 'hand outs' or visuals were quickly emailed, although we did have a bit of trouble with maps - we all ended up sketching rough ones.

But, despite that I would say we had a rather successful time of it. While it certainly detracts, its far better than not playing at all. Good luck
