Core Set for Pre-Order on Amazon (Rediculously Cheap)

By Master of R'lyeh, in CoC General Discussion

You are not kidding are you. Astonishingly dumb of Amazon.

Chick

i already filled out the replacement order but the item shipped is from the same page.......so i wonder if the replacement will just end up being the same thing. i feel sorry for someone that orders the 39.95 core set and gets a pack. thats what the page ships out.......so i dont know

Just checked back against my post on page 8.

Amazon somehow STILL has the ISBN numbers crossed up. In spite of the fact that dozens of people pointed it out to them weeks ago, and my uber-powerful customer service gal said she had pulled the web listing herself.

Sheesh.

Chick

Bad news, Amazon has removed the picture of the core set which was on the website above the spawn of the sleeper asylum pack ISBN number.

They also still have their Horror Beneath the surface listing messed up. It has the picture for spawn of the sleeper.

Still a ball of weasels.

Chick

Indeed. I ordered a Spawn of the Sleeper pack with the Core set. It came today and instead of being The Spawn of the Sleeper it was The Horror Beneath the Surface.

I'm beginning to believe the Core set will be the asylum pack when it arrives. Do you think if we raise a stink they will honor the $9.99 on the core set?

Plenty of stink has already been raised (you can see lots of it on boardgamegeek, including transcripts of actual calls to Amazon and Overstock), so, based on what I saw there, ummm, no. They will give you the runaround or they will tell you to return the item, but you will not see a $10 Core Set arrive at your door.

My three Spawn of the sleeper packs arrived today..............again.

My order for the Core set arrived today and was also wrong. I hope it's not going to be a pain in the butt to have them exchange it for the proper item.

It's going to be. I emailed them and linked to a Core Set that someone else was selling on Amazon to show them what I should have gotten. Here's the latest response from Amazon.

"Hello,

I'm sorry to hear the replacement "Call of Cthulhu Card Game Core Set" had the same problem as your first order. This usually doesn't happen. It is certainly not our intention to ship wrong products to our customers, and we will investigate the origin of this problem.

Please return the items for a full refund. We'll pay for the return shipping costs.

I understand that you would like us to send the below mentioned item at the price you ordered.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1589944666

Unfortunately, we won't be able to send you the item as it's not available from us. It's only available from some of our registered third-party sellers.

We have teamed up with third-party sellers to offer greater selection and added convenience for our customers. Pricing policies are determined by the individual seller, and not by Amazon.com.

When you shop with a third-party seller, that seller's shipping terms will apply to your purchase. Rates, restrictions, and methods vary from seller to seller and are not set by Amazon.com. These sellers set their own prices.

I'm sorry but we won't be able to send the item, Call of Cthulhu Card Game Core Set, at the price you ordered as it's unavailable from us . Amazon.com does not have a price-matching policy at this time.

Again, I'm really sorry about this. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

The last line is pretty funny under the circumstance.

I don't suppose there's any chance of FFG stepping up to correct their mistake of sending the wrong info to Amazon & Overstock.

Good report, Donald, thanks for posting it, but I have a couple of small disagreements.

The way Amazon has handled the problem has been, imo, hugely better than the way Overstock copped out.

Also, I don't think the mistake can all be laid at FFG's door. Certainly it seems extremely stupid to have named these products " Call of Cthulhu - The Card Game (Core set)" and " Call of Cthulhu - The Card Game (Spawn of the Sleeper asylum pack)" so that anybody shipping the wrong one will see the "correct" name in huge letters on the boxes.

But the fact that, (as noted in my "ISBN numbers" post from two weeks ago in this thread), Overstock and Amazon have DIFFERENT errors one from the other means that at least some of those glitches were introduced in the distribution pipeline or at the retailers themselves.

Donald, please be certain that Amazon refunds you your entire amount, and report here when and if they do/don't.

you know when you posted the isbn chart the other week i was thinking maybe it is ffg fault......when i thought of it was just a joke to myself. but im not so sure.

look at how many typos and such we've seen recently from ffg. whats to keep them from making the same typo on orders. they could have very easily mixed the isbn with the wrong product and set out order forms or whatever. and that could very well be where all this mess started.

obviously amazon and overstock got bad info from somewhere. i dont think both companies would make the same mistake, too unlikely. so probably their info was bad and they went with what they had to set up taking orders thinking it was correct.

Thanks, Chick. I'll get a refund eventually, I'm sure. Amazon seems to be heading toward cop out too, it's just taking them longer.

After reading this thread

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/384068

seems Overstock is blaming it on FFG for giving them the wrong ISBN for the Core and your ISBN post on pg 8 makes it seem Amazon had the same thing happen. Amazon stocks D&D minis and other booster based games and seems to be able to keep them separate, not sure how this got to be the exception.

Well the Core set has been pulled from the Amazon website. So yeah, I don't think they are going to honor the original order. Too bad really, as I won't be ordering Asylum packs from them anymore.

Does anyone think it would do any good to email FFG about this again (I realise some have already)? This is a huge black eye to the CoC LCG.

You guys didn't read my ISBN list carefully. Some of the errors were DIFFERENT between Amazon and Overstock, therefore those could not have come unmodified from an FFG error. The Core set title with the Spawn ISBN was identical between Overstock and Amazon, therefore it came either from FFG or from a distributor between FFG and the retailers.

Chick

Ya, Amazon is going the Overstock route. The latest:

Thought I'd share my little descent into madness with overstock. After getting the unwanted switch with the core set, I cancelled my order last week. So of course today, I get a shipment notification. All overstock would say by phone is that once I receive it, they'll send me a free shipping label. I still ripped the poor schlub pretty good, as I now have to jumpt through the hoop then drive to the post office to return something I never ordered if the first place. Ugh.

Wow, not being able to edit your posts really sucks. These were my first two under the new system.

looks like im getting a refund. i must say amazon is usually very good about customer service but im really disappointed with how they handled this. they could have been upfront about the mistake instead they weasled their way out of it.
