Tie and X wing paint job

By Lurtz, in Star Wars: Armada

Those are the best paint jobs I've seen so far. Would you mind explaining how you did it? I want to paint my squadrons when my sets arrive, but I've never painted minis before, and painting something so small is pretty daunting for a first project.

Well thank you very much :)

The process was quite involved im afraid and time consuming. Though you could do some basic steps to really make the fighters pop.

look in washes if you dont know what that is, very easy way of bringing out the details. And to make things look more used. All of the X wings were drenched in the stuff.

ties are fairly simple, give them a base coat of black and then paint the wing panels and superstructure grey.

x wings are really fun to paint actually because you can get creative. I highly recommend using sources though as if you try to just remember what they look like, like me :P, you can be a little off.

thats still not very in depth i know but if youd like a better walkthrough id be happy to pm you or make a thread if theres interest.

Looks amazing!

Did u use a primer/base coat on the xwings as well?

I created an account just to assure you there is at least one person very interested in reading an in depth guide as to how you went about painting your fighters. Top notch stuff! I'd love to know what paints/washes you used, what brush size, and any technique tips you care to share. Really great work!

Ok so the x wings are special, i wanted the absolute most raggady look to them as possible really worn and whatnot. SO, some have a base coat and some do not, though after the wash its a little hard to tell but you still can. I also have a hard time with color recognition especially that **** x wing!!! I used two different GW greys for the base coat id have to re checm which.

As for an in depth tutorial, i can definately do that! I ordered a second core (because i fell in love with the game :D)

I plan to paint those fighters as well and with those ill do a photo step by step for ya, Im pretty sure i can even do better this time!

Also really appreciate the comment :)

Looks like we just got a paints and conversions up! I'll probably have a tutorial in there by wednesday

Working on the first part of the leveled tie tutorial. How do you post pictures into comments?

Here are a few I've been working on. The X-Wings are base coated an off white. Then the nose cone and canpoy are marked off with a.05mm pen. I also run a line along both sides of the engines. the canpoy is painted black and then line detailed with a light grey (which I'm thinking is optional after the closer look). They are then washed with a black wash and after dry the top side is touched up to brigthen them up. The tie was just a paint and wash.

Dude! Those are really good, I especially like your cockpits! You should make a thread in the forums showing your stuff i dont think anyone check this one out anymore.

Im sure youd get more feedback that way, thank you for sharing with me though :)

Holy crap. How are people making the individual cockpit lines around the 'windows' in light blue? ANYBODY?

Check out my X wing tutorial in my signature for my method, youd have to ask otgers how they accomplished theirs.

I love it, great job and especially nice attention to detail with the little bit of red on that one TIE Fighter.
