Alternative Prequel Trilogy

By Pac_Man3D, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi folks

Just watched Episode 5 again with the kids and it got me thinking of an alternative prequel trilogy. Here are my thoughts so far. I'd be interested if we could build on this together and create something awesome...

Episode 1 would focus on Obi-Wan meeting Anakin and wanting to train him, despite Yoda's reservations.

Jedi would be rare and more akin to the LotR circle of wizards than the Kung-Fu league we get in the movies.

The Empire would be an invasion force rather than a descendent of sorts from the Republic. The emerging Empire would gain access to clone technology, enabling them to overthrow a dying government.

We wouldn't see Anakin become Vader, ever.

Anakin would be the movies' Han Solo-type. And he and Obi-Wan would actually get on with each other.

What else?

Best wishes

No Jar Jar

Empire should start from disatisfied planet on the edge of the republic. Bastion is a good candidate.

You could steal the imperial knights from legacy era. Vader could be ine.

Not familiar with Bastion. Will look into it.

It was the capital of what was left of the Empire at the end of the war with the Rebel Alliance/New Republic.

Though I think having the Empire be an invading power would greatly speed the growth of the rebellion.

Bastion would be pretty good. Or maybe Dromund Kaas if you want to give it some ancient sith flavor.

technically it is not rebellion if the Empire is an outside force.

ok greatly speeds the spread of resistance movements then. Also the Alliance would be likely to have a lot more support in the core worlds which held most of the power under the Republic due to resentment about the Empire usurping that authority.

I think Jedi were rare in the prequels. It's just that we saw it from a Jedi's perspective, so all we saw were the Jedi. I agree that the feeling that they are rare should get across to the viewers. Their powers should also be toned down from superhero levels.

Speaking of Jedi. If it were me, I'd already build in some discontent with the Jedi. Show that they have already somewhat fallen from their ways. That the common people don't trust them. (Would you trust someone who can control your mind and takes your children?) That way, when the empire comes in and breeds greater distrust in the Jedi, then it's much more believable that the common person just forgets about them and their "hokey" religion.

I really liked Zhan's idea of the Clone Wars being someone cloning Jedi and using them as generals to fight a war. The cloning process drove them crazy/evil because as cloned/artificial beings their link to the Force was weird. (I've never read the books, but I like the concept as described to me by friends.) As it stands now, the Clone Wars were named after the good guys. When was the last time there was a war named after the "good" guys? You usually name them after the people who attack your way of life. I also like the cloned Jedi idea because I really want to see Ben Kenobi and OB-1 walk into a room and fight to the death with the audience not knowing if it was good Ben or evil clone OB-1 who survived.
