Movement template and fleeing the battlefield

By Jaden Ckast, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So was reading thru the new faq and ran across the questions about movement. Now I always thought that if your movement template was outside the play area it meant your ship would be considered fleeing. However according to the rules this doesn't seem to be the case. So am I right in thinking that if I'm facing a board edge at an angle and I perform a hard 2 or 3 turn and half of the template is hanging off the board but my final position places my entire ship still on the board with no edge overhanging that it is legal?

yes it is.

Correct, as long as the final position of the ship hS the entirety of the base inside the play area, you are fine.

Another question to add perhaps though, if you attempt to barrel roll and it would take you off the board, do you have to complete the move? Or would it be the same as landing on a rock when trying to barrel roll?

It is legal to barrel roll, boost, or decloak off the board. The board's edge does not obstruct those movements.

Under tournament rules, if you declare you're doing one of those things in a particular direction, and it turns out that the move puts you off the board, you have to finish it and the ship is lost. Under basic rules, you can change your mind.

I was wondering about that too. The question asked in the FAQ states "can a ship decloak or use the barrel roll...to move outside the play area, then move back into the play area when it executes it maneuver?" And ffgs' response is "no." Then followed by if it does it has fled the battlefield which is kind of a conundrum because first it says "no" to question asking if a ship can barrel roll out of the play area but then says if it does it's fled. I mean technically one could argue with that first response of "no" means you cannot do it. I'm not one of those people who would argue that but there prolly is some who would. I think ffg should be more clear cut saying something like "if your declared barrel roll, boost or decloak maneuver places your final position of your base on or outside the board edge your ship is considered to have fled". Something like that I think would be better. The way it's worded right now you could argue either way. Person A "see ffg says no I cannot" person B " ya but the sentence after says if you do it's fled" persona A "ya but ffg says no I cannot do that maneuver therefore I can pick another" etc. Just saying it could be argued.

because first it says "no" to question asking if a ship can barrel roll out of the play area

The question was not "can it BR off the map", it was "can it barrel roll off the map and then move back on" the answer to that is no. The reason it is no is because if it barrel rolls off the map it is considered fled and removed from play.

The FAQ says No to moving off the table and then moving back on, which is the correct answer the the question. It is not the answer to weather you can decloak, boost or barrel role off the table.

Yes your right, for some reason I misread it thinking it was the first question about just barrel rolling or boosting off the table. Thanks :)
