A couple of rules questions....

By jediMasterLenny, in Star Wars: Armada

LOVE THE GAME! Here were some things that I didn't quite understand from the learn to play (I have no background in X-Wing, watied just for the cap ships):

1) When you take damage, do you only draw damage cards when accruing hull damage or do you draw them for shield damage as well? PART 2: Do "critical hits" do anything special when it is just sheilds that are being taken?

2) Can you spend command tokens on your squadrons? For example, can I use the "focus fire" token on my xwings?

3) When you use the squadron command does that give you an extra move/attack with your squadrons (so you would get to activate them again during the squadron phase) or does it allow you to simply activate sooner?

4) Same question but for defense tokens, or are they only for the ships and NOT the squadrons?

Thanks in advance!

1) You don't deal damage cards for shield damage. Cards only apply to damage applied to the hull. Crits only apply for special attacks or Critial damage to hull.

2) No commands on squadrons. They are for ships only.

3) You activate them sooner. They then do not activate in the Squadron phase since you toggled their base.

4) Only unique pilots have Defence tokens. See the bottom of Howlrunner and Luke.

1) you only take damage cards when taking hull damage, part 2 no critical hits only take effect once the shields are gone and the first damage card is dealt face up

2) no, as far as i understand the tokens are used for that one particular capital ship. that said the squadron command of course negates this rule as it requires you to use your squadrons

3) no once a squadron has been activated it cannot activate until the next round. the advantage of this command action is that you can both move and fire with your squadrons before the rest of the squadrons take their turns

4) defense tokens are for the ships they are assigned to only. that said there are named squadrons that do have defensive actions

1) Shields soak damage, so no cards are drawn. Drawing damage = hull damage. Crits do nothing if soaked by shields.

2) Command tokens are for ships. Even the Squadron command is for your ship so that it can direct your squadron.

3) The Squadron command Lets you move and attack in any order, so you do get something 'extra' - but no, you do not activate them again as you have already moved their slider to show that they have been activated.

4) Defense tokens are for whatever craft they are on and that craft only. Some Squadron Heroes have Def Token and can use them just like Capital ships.

Edit: I am just going to wait in future - you all type so much quicker than me!

I don't want to start another thread and I had a few questions as well, maybe you guys know the answer.

If a ship can do two attacks each sip phase, can one be on a ship, and the other on squadrons?

A ship can do two attacks on the same hull zone of an enemy as long as both attacks are not from the same hull zone right?

Say I have 3 accuracy results. Can I say the opponent cant use any of his 3 defense tokens, even if two are the same?

Yes, they just need to be in different firing arcs

Yes

Yes, it is a number of tokens equal to the number of accuracy dice

yes you can attack both ship OR squadrons PER hull zone of attacking

yes you can focus one hull zone of an enemy ship with 2 attacks if your arcs of fire can both target the same hull zone

yes each accuracy result can negate one of the defense tokens. so 3 results will remove all 3 defense tokens from being used

1) No, attacks are directed at a ship or squadron/squadrons in that arc. You can attack a ship in one arc and squadon/squadrons in a different arc.

2)Yes. As long as LOS can be drawn from both of the attackers arc to the same hull zone it is allowed.

3) Yes, but for that attack only. See Rules Reference Page 2. Under Attack, Step 3 - Spend Accuracy Icons
