Will FFG start to tell us how we can play?

By Ken on Cape, in X-Wing

I'm upset at the "have to use FFG play mats" and Phantom nerf. I saw a bat rep video on BBG of a store championship I think. One of the players was using his fingers to see where his ship would be before he set the dial locked in the movement. Will using your own hands be banned now too?

If by FFG "telling you how to play" you mean expecting you to follow the rules then they started three years ago.

I hate gamers sometimes.

After working in game stores for years... yeah there are a few cool responsible self reliant people who love toys in their adulthood... then there are the barely functioning, cheap, filthy, subhumans.

Wow!

just wait for the no lazers ruling for getting line of sight without using the range ruler in combat phase that knocks of most of the ships or moves em cant wait for that to happen.

Lasers are dangerous man, we have had 3 players go blind while checking arcs in the last month.

That'll happen when you're trying to aim a laser with your feet!

The miniatures we got in the 80's were so much bigger than the ones they sell us now! And they had no rules telling us how we could play!

You can't premeasure, so arguably, yes.

Will using your own hands be banned now too?

That does seem to be the next logical step, doesn't it?

Yeah I wuz because I ran off the unwashed with club fees for table use and gave discounts to regular customers.

This made the filthies mad because they did not buy much and the good ole soda to hold the table all night trick did not work in my game area.

You buy from me, you get the badass tables reserved for you and your bros to game on all night.

"Dat ain't right!' they would say. In time they got it into their thick stupid heads that they could not meander about and scare the wives and girlfriends of our cool reliable working adult customers. They had to spend money to be in the store for more than an hour because they would not buy a $3 a month membership. I knew they would not because they have high the moral ground and are thrifty with their money.

We would not kick them out, but a good customer would come in and get priority use of the tables because they had a membership in good standing with us.

:P

We even had a room for kids to hang out and play card games and such while their dads and moms played miniatures and RPG's... it all worked out great while I and my assistance worked there. The only thing that messed us up is that the owner of the property died and the place was closed shortly after by his widow. It happens. The point is that you can make a cool place for cool people to have fun... as long as you have fair policies and you take out the garbage.

That...uh....that wasn't from using lasers...

Seriously... why do solo gamers get that kind of hate?

Some of us have to play that way (well, not X-wing in my case, but...).

... it don't bother me none if some people do not like me.

And I can still like some people, just fine.

Yes! You heard it here first: only official FFG fingers allowed for tournament play!

Which I think is AWESOME. I'm sending an email now to see if I can request specific ones.

Opponent: "I don't think you have range for your HLC on Dash there."

Me: "Well, let me hold up my custom Alex Davy's middle finger Range 1 template to gauge my distance..."

Best game accessory EVAR.

Good news everyone! I finally heard back from FFG! They said that if I continue to send these requests, someone will almost assuredly give me the finger!

Clearly, another sign that FFG is always willing to give that little bit extra.

PS: I thought today would be a good day to update this thread. :D

I thought pre measuring was already outright banned? When I picked this game up a couple of years ago I could have sworn it was already against the rules then.

Man, threads like these need to stop. I thought this was a discussion forum on how to play the game, not a place to vent inaccurate frustrations.

OP, Since you have received more than enough snark already:

FFG is not going to send out the X Wing Police to raid your home if you play by whatever rules set you wish. Playing with older rules editions is something of a tradition in tabletop gaming.

If you don't like the new Phantom changes, don't play with them (assuming your friends also agree with you). If you want to play pre-FAQ competitively, convince a TO to run that tournament. Better yet, run it yourself.

If nobody in your play group wants to play pre-FAQ, that has nothing to do with FFG.

If we didn't play this game the way the rules and FFG tell us to there would be to much of this!

Here's the old rule on playmats.

Players cannot bring their own playmats to play on instead of the play
surfaces provided by the TO.

Here's the new rule on playmats.

In events where players provide their own playmats, only official FFG
X-Wing™ Playmats are allowed. This is to guarantee a consistent experience
for all players and prevent any advantage players may gain from familiarity
with a particular playmat that is not widely available. FFG playmats are widely
available for examination and play. If a venue provides playmats for their event,
they may use third-party playmats. Players may replace third-party playmats if
they provide their own FFG playmat to use.

Do people not like the new option of bringing their own?

I don't understand. What does "enough snark" mean?

I think it's like "slug bug" just without the VW Beetle.

...So when you see "enough snark," you scream it out loud and punch someone?
