Tzu Mainn's website

By Rozy, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Hi everybody, does anyone know anything about Tzu Mainn? Why hasnt he been updating his website for several month? Has he stopped playing and thus updating his web?

His web has always been very important for our meta. We always used it for our deckbuilding and other thing like knowing what to buy and how many times. But it is hard lately to keep doing thinks like before when there is still more and more card missing on the web and when someone refers to a card you cant find there.

So is he going to update his website again soon, or is it over? Could someone, maybe some of his friends, help him do that? Or does anyone else has a nice online database?

Thanks for answrs.

I don't think anyone knows or is in a position to divulge Mainn's status or his intentions for his website (or, at least, I haven't seen anyone post anything). I've personally tried reaching him a couple times recently by email but to no avail. At this point I'm assuming we won't be seeing any more updates.

On the bright side, Bloodycelt has been generously putting in a lot of time and effort to build a new card database (eventually to have deck building, I believe). I've seen it a little in "early beta" and it looks promising. And others have been helping him compile card data, so hopefully the project is moving steadily along.

Sorry, Rozy.

He used to be a semi regualr part of the NYC group - in town at least once a month for gaming. I don't think any of us in NY have seen or heard form him since last fall. Not sure what hsi status is, but I wouldn't count on his site being updated in the near future.

You never know... he might be very busy with Miley, and the Greyjoy expansion may grab him back into the game... that's the problem he's sort of dropped out of contact.

As for the site, this is the current status:

I have up to ITE in the database.

You can search for traits, character names, and sets.

I added some aestheticly pleasing features as well.

I'll let folks know when i plan on beta testing again.

Thanks.

It's too bad he seems to be out of contact. The easiest thing would be if he'd allow someone to take over administration of the site and/or updates. It really would be too bad to have to reinvent the wheel.

I found it very strange that the spoiler articles for City of Secrets both included a link to Tzumainn's website at the bottom. The link looked like an editorial comment by Nate (or some other FFG employee), rather than something written by the guest authors of the articles. It disturbed me that Nate would appear so out of touch with the community that he wouldn't know about the site's moribund status.

As the most recent world champion, does Tzu Mainn have the right to design a card? If so, you would think that FFG would be in contact with him, or at least be aware if he's quit the game. I don't mean to imply that FFG has an obligation to tell us anything (they don't), but it just adds to my puzzlement about them publishing a link to his web site....

Yes, Tzumainn gets to design a card, and I'm reasonably sure he already has.

And while his website hasn't been updated in a while, it is still the best resource out there. I continue to use it on a daily basis.

Actually, I think he gets to design 2. One for being the Melee Champion, one for being the World Champion. Then Maester_LUke should also be designing one for being the Joust Champion.

...Wonder what CP those are coming out in...

Are they even in KLE or will they be in the set after?

... the answer is probably NDA? I haven't heard any official talk of the champion card. Den was announced at Gencon, but prior cards were announced with thier respective sets (at least Ghost was...)

Hey guys - sorry for the long, long, long delay in a reply. I've kinda backed out of the game a little; I was still intending to update my website with the help of the spreadsheets that people kindly typed up and sent to me. . . and then I learned that I am incredibly anal and paranoid. Without the actual cards, I get nervous that I'm not representing the card correctly; maybe there's a mistake here or there, and I'm putting bad information up on the site.

I intended to get over that neurosis and just use the spreadsheets, but I kept putting it off and off; whenever I got an email asking about the site, I decided that I would get to work, and then I'd put that off and off, and somehow I've been putting it off for half a year now.

Sooooooo. . . if anyone can send me pictures of the cards - something from a digital camera, 9 cards at a time, would probably do - I'd gladly start updating my site again.

Sorry about the mess : )

I know firsthand the evils of procrastination.

Glad to see your ok. hopefully we can respark your interest in the game (if not with the GJ expansion then when your card comes out).

Thanks for trying to keep the site updated for use junkies :)

Mainn - no need to apologize! what you do is a labor of love and you don't owe anyone anyhting after all you have given the community over the years.

Just know that we do miss you - and if you are ever ready to return, we'll be here waiting for you. Talk to yuo soon.

I'll try to get scans/pictures to you tonight.

Hi Tzu, nice to hear from you.

Actualy I have been scanning the new cards by myself for our meta use. So I have CPs from ToR

1-4 here: http://boh.webz.cz/KRAVINKY/ToR.rar

5-6 here: http://boh.webz.cz/KRAVINKY/ToR5a6.rar

they are not perfect but could at least help you see the cards and right wording

it is also missing some plots or agendas but most of the cards is there

Great to hear from you again tzumainn!

And about those designed cards... I always thought Den of the Wolf was the one "World Champ Card", but are there some more to come?

Den of the Wolf is the "World Champ" card from the August 2007 Gencon. There should be 3 "World Champ" cards (Melee, Joust and Overall) in the works from August 2008.

It is not surprising that Den of the Wolf came in the Ravens CPs. Remember that the 5KE Base Set was released as a CCG, but the model switched to the LCG before it's two expansion sets came out. That's why the Clash of Arms cycle fits so well with 5KE cards (it started design-life as an expansion to 5KE). Ravens was being designed at about the same time as the second expansion for 5KE would have been worked on - and the second expansion was usually when the Champion cards were released.

So we're in uncharted territory when it comes to the timing of release for the 2008 Gencon winners' cards. Normally, we would be expecting them about now - meaning they could be in one of the upcoming KL packs (which would be nice). It strikes me that the GJ expansion also fits the old timing for "World Champ" cards, so maybe they'll be in there (something I think would be kind of cool because it's easier to remember "Champion cards in the expansion" than "Champion cards in CP #4 or KL, which was called...um...").

Or maybe they'll break the 3 of them up somehow. We'll see....

Er, dumb question - what's standard legal now?

BTW, I would spoil my designed card, but Nate said that if I did, he would print a StagLord-only card that would actually let him win some games.

No more Standard (Officially that is)

LCG format (Clash of Arms chapter packs, Core Set, Ravens Chapter Packs, KLE Chapter packs)

Legacy (Everything else)

Unofficially

Standard (Iron Throne forward)

"Standard legal" is a dead term now. If you mean what are tourney legal outside of highlander it is Clash of Arms/Core Set and up. If you mean what are people playing who haven't switched to LCG, that varies meta to meat but essentially it appears to be ITE and up, with a lot of talk about "rottating" ITE after Gencon on the former schedule.

Actually - I don't miss you at all, wiseass. Its just your fan boys that do.

And i went 3-0 in NYC last night, BTW. Ask LGR about it.

Exactly how I would have said it. Good to hear from you.

As for what is standard legal, I would just do LCG (ACoA on up). I think we're finally all ready to make the jump and ditch standard. At least I am.

Standard is ITE, 5KE and LCG.

At least those that still play it.

~ It would be like mainn to come back just after I paid for a linode.... which means regardless of mainn updating his site I now have an obligation to not waste my money.

I sent you pictures of all of a time of ravens around february... (crashing gmail while i was at it).

QFT

Which is pretty much everyone around here.

If the DC guys weren't going to GenCon I would have made a much bigger argument that he Kingsmoot should have been Standard. Remember - we did get that memo form FFG saying tournaments can be held in whatever format the local play group is most comforatbel with - even if it isn't one of the two "officially" recognized ones.
