squadron attack question

By rindrake, in Star Wars: Armada

in the rules on page 13 it says squadron use the dice thats printed on the card which for the xwing is 1 red for ships and 4 blue for squads. In the next paragraph it says squadrons attack at a distance of 1. "Squadrons can use all the colors of dice at distance 1". So my question is which is it? 1 red die for ships and 4 blue for squads or all of them.

The squadron cards are very clearly differentiated between anti-ship weapons and anti-squadron weapons. The rules are just saying all dice regardless of color fire at the same distance. An X-Wing rolling at red doesn't get to roll it at long range.

You have to remember that in the captial ships firing rules, black dice can only be used at close range, blue dice at close or medium range, and red dice at close, medium and long range.

Where it says "squadrons can use all colours at distance 1" it is telling you to ignore the regular close/medium/long rules regarding dice and colours, instead all fighters shoot distance 1 with whatever dice they say.

If you are shooting ships, use the ship dice (1 red), if shooting squadrons then use the squadron dice (4 blue).

Its really quite simple once you get your head around it :)

ah ok thanks maverick. i got it now.
