A few rules questions

By moffmalthus, in Star Wars: Armada

I've played several games now and have a few questions were not 100% sure on. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

1. When using the General Dodonna ability to pull the top 4 cards from the damage deck does this ability work with every critical hit from all ships and squadrons in the fleet or just the ship he is directly attached to?

2. The Disengaged Fire Control damage card states: When declaring the target of attack you can not choose a target against whom the attack would be obstructed. My question is how can you target a ship that is obstructed anyway? Doesn't LOS rule out targeting an obstructed ship? Clearly I'm reading this wrong...

3. When you use the eng command ability at three points discard a damage card does this also repair a damaged hull point?

Thank you!!

1) I assume every ship in your fleet, but I'm not sure. Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong.

2) You can declare attacks against obstructed targets, you just lose a die of attack (Learn to Play page 19).

To be clear, you can have line of sight through other ships and obstacles, the attack just becomes obstructed. The only thing that blocks line of sight is hull zones on the defending ship other than the defending hull zone.

3) Sure does! Damage is tracked through cards, so it effectively heals you a point.

1 - Unless it states a range then i would assume all critical, fighters (other than bombers) can't do crits anyway.

2 - You can target an obstructed ship you just take away 1 dice of your choice, so this doesn't allow you to target them at all.

3 - Damage cards are hull damage so yes.

1 - Yes, but Dodonna's ability on says ships. It does not say Squadrons. So X-Wing's (and more importantly Luke) can't gain his benefit even if they do crit.

2 - Obstructing is different to LOS. You just remove one AD of your choice usually if obstructed

3 - Nothing can damage HP. It's a static number that when you have enough damage cards you lose the ship. HP itself never goes down.. although with Motti, it does go up... and possibly down WE REALLY NEED AN FAQ ON HIM.

It's exactly the same thing as in X-Wing.

1 - Yes, but Dodonna's ability on says ships. It does not say Squadrons. So X-Wing's (and more importantly Luke) can't gain his benefit even if they do crit.

It says nothing about friendly ships. The card reads "When an enemy ship is dealt a faceup damage card" It does not matter where the faceup damage card comes from. It can come from Luke or an asteroid or whatever, Dodonna's ability always triggers.

Are you sure? It seems you are thinking of a different card. I don't have the core game yet, but that is drastically different from the Armada wiki for Dadonna:

"When a friendly ship is attacking, before the defender is dealt a faceup damage card, look at the top 3 cards of the damage deck, place 1 on top of the deck and discard the others."

That is not what Dodonna reads.

"Before an enemy ship is dealt a faceup damage card, look at the top 4 cards of the damage deck, place 1 on top of the deck, and discard the others"

That's outdated information. Here's a picture of the real card:

I wish they would have spelled it out, like they did on the former. The new version makes it sound like "all" face up damage, no matter the source, will have this attached. I'm sure it will be rectified in the FAQ.

This card is being discussed here as well.

I'm sure it was upgraded since it's supposed to form a strong combo with Luke.

Edit: Looks like you linked to this thread here by accident!

I think this is pretty clear, and obviously a revision. I also think we all need to forget the older net-spoiled cards we have seen, as this has led me astray a couple of times now!
