Do stats exist somewhere? Or has anyone doe up, just basic primitive type.
Bow and arrow?
I think Suns of Fortune has them. They're big in Corellian culture.
Yes, the Corellian compound bow and arrows are in Suns of Fortune.
I'm hoping one of the Force and Destiny books will have stats for the energy bow. I always liked those things.
Great. Thanks.

Just reflavour bowcasters for now? Or for said purposes?

That's a good temporary solution but I'm a sucker for official stats
As a slight aside, do any of you find it odd that the redundancy "bow AND arrow" is always used? I mean, what else does a bow fire? I know there are sling bows but nobody really thinks of that when they think of a bow. So why say "bow and arrow?" You never hear anyone say "That guy over there was shot by a fellow with a gun and bullets."
Corellian Compound Bow is in Suns of Fortune, page 97. I don't recomend using one.
Ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.

What, never heard of a bow and dwarf?

Or a bow and chicken?
Ohhhh you two wags are funny you are...

but how can a dwarf bow, if he is already so short
does anyone use a custom skill for bows? i am considering doing this, because i really dont feel like using a bow would be the same as using a gun. but it does make confusion if you consider that means a character needs experience for a very limited selection of weapons.
Edited by PeroxisRAW, the Corellian Compound Bow uses Ranged (Heavy). I'd just use that, it's simple. The PC won't be out of luck when they realize that the compound bow is inferior to other ranged weapons and they want to stop using it.

I like Sam's advice on this subject. Only use a custom skill if you want to make the Bow his or her primary schtick
Of course, if you have a character who wants to make a habit out of using a Corellian compound bow, you could always invent a custom skill that covers both aspects of bow-use. Ranged (Bow) is certainly unorthodox, but fits into the reason custom skills exist in the first place. In this case, all three payloads for the bow would change to Ranged (Bow) for that character, and you and your GM could work together to determine which Ranged (Light) or Ranged (Heavy) talents would apply to your new skill. I'm certain that, given the other ranged options available, inventing this skill would not prove to be overly powerful.
The bow is awesome if you want to knock people down. The special arrows are fun too. The weird part is that the special arrows use Ranged (light), while the bow itself is Ranged (heavy). My group was fine with it when we had a character that used a bow because both his Ranged Light and Heavy skills were the same. The only rationale I can give it is that the special arrows are rocket propelled so that they don't need as much pull on the string to fire them. However, using Ranged (Light) is against the design intent laid out in the core rule book which states that Ranged (Heavy) is for weapons that require two hands to use. If a character does want to use a bow, then I'd recommend doing something for house rules. Either pick Heavy or Light or come up with a new skill. (Which I'd go with just using Ranged (Heavy) for the bow and special arrows because I'm not a fan of creating new skills.)
As for why we always call it "bow and arrow", I think it's because "bow" has so many meanings. When I say "I have a bow" I could mean I have a lean, I have a hair ribbon tied in a bow, I have a bow to play a violin with, or I have a weapon with which I can use arrows. That's with just saying it as bow (as in bow and arrow). You get more meanings when you say bow like bow wow, such as bowing your head. Saying "bow and arrow" adds clarity.
maybe if am going to make a house rule i will just add boost dice or setback dice if i think its more or less likely characters will know how to use a bow.
and not make it so it depends on XP but just if they have used it a bit or have included that they have trained with the bow and arrow in the narrative somewhere,
eg. the ship uses its hyperdrive and takes 3 weeks to get to its destination, in this time character A trains with her bow in the training area everyday for this period.

Dev response on O66 was the different is beacuse the regular arrows need to hit and have power behind them to do damage. The stun and explosive arrows use a tech tip to do their damage, so they just need to hit.
That is just dumb. It takes an already inferior weapon and makes it even harder to use effectively. The only thing going for the weapon was its versatile ammo. I would house rule the crap out of it to one skill or the other.

Yeah, when I introduce bows, I'm definately going to houserule it.
I'll just introduce a special skill for them (since they are VASTLY different from firing a rifle or pistol type weapon) and using the base stat of Agility as the skill for the players (since they won't have the skill).
Sam Stewart also said it straight out in the Order 66 podcast that the bow was a really good place to introduce a custom skill called Archery. Just make it a career skill regardless of who takes it, and you're good to go.

Actually, I'd keep it a non-career skill just because of the rarity of those weapons.
(with the possible exception of the Big Game Hunter profession)
I would be loath to introduce a skill that does one thing. I'd have to have it cover more. Do you have it cover bows, crossbows (which aree in SW) and thrown weapon (throwing knives and bolas)? Do you include grenades?
Surely if you can use ranged Heavy for normal arrows then it can be used for the special arrows. It's just preventing the use of ranged light with normal arrows
If your creating an Archery skill, swap it for the ranged Heavy in which ever career/spec the PC is using, and re-word talents in those trees that usually effect Ranged Heavy to be effecting Archery. Essentially creating some kind of archer specialisation that can't use Blasters but is amazing with a Bow (and arrow!)
Bounty Hunter with Assasin and Survivalist would be good. So would Fringer Big game hunter, Hired Gun Heavy, Beast Rider for a mounted archer, Commander Tactician, and finally Soldier Sharpshooter would all make for a very interesting character
It is ranged heavy because it uses 2 hands
