So I would appreciate if someone for FFG, or at least with a moderate understanding of reality would comment just so I can shove this in people's faces. Explain to these people that the boxes FFG uses are so large to protect their goods. Explain the concept of using cheap materials like card board and plastic to support 1000 other items in shipping so they do not get damaged ships. Apparently the vast majority of people are ignorant enough to think it's just marketing. LMAO

There's no need to be rude. If you don't like my YouTube comment then ignore it but part of it is indeed because of shelf presence. Same thing with the overly large LCG core set boxes.

I always thought the boxes were large so there was room for expansions. That said, the box design could be improved so that two thirds of those boxes aren't wasted (e.g. the Netrunner box).
Not intended for storage. Not very good for it either. I saved my Star Wars box because well it is Star Wars. Rest went right to the recycling bag.
Actually I was making this post due to an abundance of people on a forum who seemed to think the boxes were designed in such a way to "market it better". Even though everyone of them had preordered the game before the package was revealed.
I'm pretty sure the Armada box doesn't ever support 1000 other boxes. A typical shipping container is only about 8 or 10-ish feet high, so I'd imagine your typical palette of Armada boxes only ever has somewhere between 10-15 copies stacked. Any more than that and you are asking for disaster.
As for the design of the box... I'm not sure why it is so large. After putting everything together though, I think the size is perfect. My victory can be fully assembled, and stand up... and the top antenna comes just shy of the ceiling of the box when closed. This is ideal for now, as I can transport the entire game assembled without having to do anything fancy.
The only thing I dislike is the open window in the front. Stuff can fall through that. Granted I can pretty easily mod the box to fix it. I understand why they put that there though... the models are gorgeous and you WANT to be able to show them off.
Edited by CrabbokI think the box is designed that large to make it an impressive size to match the $100 retail price. Period.
They may have other products planned to use such a large box so there could be some economies of scale. I didn't check but I'm assuming Imperial Assault is the same size box already.
Before you jump on me I'm not complaining. It's very impressive and looks great on the shelf but it's not a great storage solution. For now I put the ships from two core sets in a single box and sorted the pieces into two Plano trays; a 3200 for most items and a 3700 for the cards, bases, tool, and range ruler. I'll keep checking Battlefoam for trays for long term.

It is exactly the same box as Imperial Assault, just with a hole cut in the front. Even the cardboard tri-fold insert is the same size I believe.
So after getting all my ships together I figured something out. If you leave the VSD on its stand and put it in the box standing up the box is tall enough so that it fits without it touching the top.
So until I get a better system for storage I can store my ships on their stands with no issue. I don't think that was an accident and they made the box tall enough for you to store your ships on their stands.
I also cutout a piece of plastic and glued it to the underside of the hole on the front so nothing falls out and you can see the ships in there. Super easy.
