Mat-Gate is over. Keep calm and carry on
So ANY mat can be provided by the organiser, but the player can DEMAND an FFG mat if they want it.
Well, we have to wait for them to update the Armada rules. I am sure they will.
Anybody else wonder if this was like a early April Fools Joke and FFG was actually dorking around trying to see if they could really cause a million nerds to cry out at once and then silence them? Betcha there is one guy at FFG right now, still rolling on the floor laughing himself to oxygen deprivation, at having gotten the chance to orchestrate such a perfect scandal, and get somebody online to post this exact video. Maybe he was trying to see if he was force sensitive or not. At any rate. Props to you Super Troll of Fantasy Flight. We salute you. o7

I think it's more likely that FFG tested the waters, to see what they could get away with. :>

Maybe. But ForceSensitive is probably right. Rules Authors and old school Dungeon Masters tend to have twisted sense of humor -- with a mile wide Troll streak ;-)
Besides, since you can demand a FFG mat in official events, they have gotten away with it.
My faith in FFG is restored
I'm glad they still listen to their customers.
I doubt that it was an April fools joke or synacism for that matter...It was pretty cut and dry so to speak...As far as the outcry on both X-wing and the game that should nott be named , that caught FFG off gaurd...Wether it was to boost marketing or keep somewhat balance and control for their gaming tournaments is another issue...Needless to say this is thier game and can make or modify the rules at a moments notice...Our input is always taken into consideration ; we are the guinea pig and the cosumer...In any case it is a start in a new direction to have official game mats at tournaments now...
Edited by meekorSome shlep did it for a good laugh, and it won't be dealt with until there is a meeting on Monday to clear up the issue and an update made on Tuesday
Until they we can all untie in our nerd outrage

Someone probably thought that they could help solve some issues with people using Thrid party mats for an advantage and help sales at the sametime. They most likely had good intentions but didn't realize the full impact or the fury of Nerd-Rage on overdrive.
So they came up with a better ruling that meets halfway no one would disagree upon.
Out of all the gaming companies FFG is really really trying the hardest to keep their PR in the gold standard.

No, they cannot demand an FFG mat. However, if the player has their own FFG mat, they can play on it instead of the one provided by the TO.
Eh, I'm still unhappy with it, but I imagine the venues I go to will mostly ignore it when they can. They don't tend to provide the mats, usually it seem to work out that the group brings their own mats and cover folks who can't. This still doesn't allow for that situation. I'd mind less, but I haven't found a review for FFG's mats that was anything more then tepid. They appear to suffer from being slippery and that is a deal breaker for me at that price. I'd test it, but none of my local shops plan on carrying them, another issue.
lol
we are using extra wide 36" yoga mats
there is no slippage
