Anyone like the btl Y wing?

By bmwrider, in X-Wing

Yes, this title is amazing. I wouldn't use it with the autoblaster, but otherwise I love it.

No difference compared to flying a X-wing or Z-95.. do you have problems flying those?

I have typically flown imperials before, so I don't have a lot of experience with x-wings, but the x-wing has a much better dial. The green banks and lack of red make a bigger difference than you think and means that the x-wing doesn't need its droid slot and action to be decently maneuverable, so those can be used to bump its offense (or defense).

The y-wing has decent toughness but crappy offense, crappy defense, and crappy maneuverability and not enough upgrade slots to significantly improve them.

The X-wing has a better dial than a Y-wing, until you add the Unhinged Astromech. Then the advantage runs the other direction.

Exactly, a great improvement for only 1 point.

The X-Wing might add R2.

Which dial is better? Y-Wing + unhinged or X-Wing + R2?

moot comparison given the respective roles of each ship

the X-wing's solid 3 attack dice and meh 2 agility favors longer range engagements (if any engagement can truly be favorable to an X-wing), making short maneuvers post K-turn ideal

the Y-wing is limited to range 1-2 turrets, making speed 3 greens ideal post K-turn

when running R4 Aggro, the dial is unquestionably inferior but the payoff is hilariously immense which is not something the X-wing can't boast (short of wedge i guess). A sh*tty dial doesn't really matter when your opponent is going 1 forward.

Which is why my whole post talked about upgrades. You can use an astromech to improve the y's maneuverability, but then you can't take one to improve your damage and your stuck with unmodifiable attacks. An x-wing is decently maneuverable naked which means, unlike the y-wing, it can use its droid to buff its offense (which is already better than a naked Y).

To repeat myself. The Y has crappy offense, crappy defense and crappy maneuverability. It can use its upgrades to buff one of those to good or 2 of them to mediocre

I murdered Wedge and Ibtisam with them last weekend.

I would have loved to watch that, would you share your build.

I guess I just hoped I was missing something.

Sounds like you've summed it up nicely

I was agreeing with you and expanding on the advantages offered to the Y-wing's dial--if that's the limiting factor for someone's play style, it's very fixable.

I was running a three ship formation. IIRC:

Drea + ICT + title + Engine Upgrade + (Unhinged or R4)

Hired Gun + same load as Drea

Dace + Moldy Crow + Blaster Turret + Recon Spec + Shield Upgrade

First time I ever ran a HWK. Next time, Dace is getting an ICT.

I used Drea with the title, R4-b11 and ion turret to win my store tourney today. Used a miniswarm of pirates with feedback arrays and Torkil with the blaster turret to victory. It might be the best list I've ever used. Lots of HP to chew through and Dreah acts like a much cheaper Corrin.
