Box Inserts - Full Wave 1

By Gothsonika, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

EDIT: I've redesigned this in 1/8" HDF to make it easier to reproduce. Biggest changes are: Weiss fits in fully assembled, more room for mission and deployment cards, command cards are vertical instead of stacked, and more room for future expansion cards. Link to more images is in my signature. Happy gaming!

I built these back in January but left the rebel model tray without dividers until the figure packs were released.

I actually don't put the rule books on top anymore, moved them to a 3 ring binder because of all the single sheet missions in the figure packs.

A total of 11 trays, all tucked nicely into the original box.

Tiles are sorted, 1-18 (outdoor tiles) + doors, terminals, crates, and mission tokens in tray 1, and then 19-39 (indoor tiles) and unit tokens in tray 2

The trays are multi-level, with more compartments under the large tiles.

Next up are the card trays. Each card type has it's own spot, which made the last campaign much easier and faster.

And then we have our dice, hit, and strain tokens.

This tray is multi-level to hold the threat meter.

And finally at the bottom we have the models (and extra dice)...

Rebels get their own tray, while Vader is hanging out with the command cards. If you look close the champion is hanging out with the AT-ST (his model was more dynamic than I expected and didn't fit in the normal tray). I need to add dividers for Weiss's guns - but I got lazy.

That is fantastic!

Impressive... most impressive.

Those are amazing

Lools great! All foam core?

Lools great! All foam core?

Thanks! Yes, it's foam core, elmer's glue, and a lot of planning. :)

That looks great! I'd love to make something like this for myself.. Could you share the dimension of your inserts?

The organization of this excites me! I would love the dimensions so I could make some myself.

I too would,like,the dimensions.

Neat. Will Weiss still fit when his guns are glued on?

Unfortunately no, he won't. I didn't account for his inferiority complex and his overcompensation with his guns. They fit standing up in the cavity around the legs of his AT-ST, so I need to create some walls to hold them in place. I wasn't planning on gluing the guns on, they fit well enough without glue and I can switch it for a normal AT-ST if I ever want to run two in skirmish (not likely, but it's an option).

There are really nice... were you thinking about sharing the plans at all?

I'm working on that but no ETA. I designed it in sketchup over a two-three week period making sure everything would fit, and tweaked it using the actual game parts as I put it together. I've gone back to my original design and started adding the changes I've made. I've received a commission to build another one and will post progress pics with dimensions as time allows. Ultimately I'd like to consolidate it into a how-to PDF.

These are great. I'm planing on stopping with Wave 1 so having the inserts would be awesome. I wonder if there isn't there anyway to keep General Weiss intact?

I've been pondering that since I got him. Unfortunately I made this back in January and assumed he'd have similar dimensions to the AT-ST. I have an idea to fix it, but it'll require redoing half the trays. :( Not sure it's worth it since I don't want to glue him together anyway.

This is the best insert I've ever seen. Bravo!

Can you give more detail on how these all stack together. It looks like the AT-ST pockets are the equivalent of the other trays. and the Nexu/E-Web pockets are 2 trays tall. The Rebel mini tray sits level with the Nexu/E-webs, but then Vader/command cards sit on top of the nexu/e-webs bringing the vader/command card tray level with the AT-STs. What fits on top of the rebel tray and the lower uncovered imperial tray? Do the tile trays stack on top of each other? If so, what goes under the skirmish card and status effect card trays? The experience card trays stacked up? They look like the same footprint. Are all of the experience card trays and the skirmish/status effect card trays all stacked next to the tile trays making 2 tile trays equivalent height to 3 card trays?

I'm trying to steal your awesome tray designs, but I'm having trouble wrapping my head around the way it all comes together. Thanks.

Let's see if I can explain it where it makes sense.. :) From the bottom, the imperial model tray is a single tray with 3 heights (AT-ST, nexu, and troops). Command cards/vader tray sits on top of the nexu, top flush with AT-ST. The token/threat counter tray and rebel model tray sit side by side on top of the imperial troop tray. Deployment and mission card tray sits on top of those, with the top flush with the AT-ST tray. At this point the top is level... and the two tile trays stack together on top of it, with the class cards stacked up next to it, and the skirmish cards and status effects side by side on top of the class cards.

It took a LOT of careful measuring of EVERYTHING to get it all to fit. :) Well worth the effort though.

Wow!

This is completely mind blowing. Awesome stuff, mate!

Nice work! Definitely thinking this is something I may have to do myself.

Wow man!! its exelent!!

The best I saw.

Could you make a tutorial or give us some dimentions?
