Modified YT2400 for Scum & Villainy......New Member.

By Barry Harker, in X-Wing

Finally, somebody modded a 2400! And it's ridiculous and awesome. I think da boyz would like all the dakka on da big boss's ride.

That is epic-ly cool! Super appreciate you posting this, and I love the jewels for engine glow idea. Looks fabulous!

I... I want that ship. I want it so much, it looks completely amazing.

I might even be willing to kill and steal for it.

Excellent work, sir. Bravo.

Wow. Thats awesome! I envy your skill-level.

WOW!

Looks like a YT2400 and a Terminator robot had a baby.

Incredible! Beautiful work.

I keep finding smart solutions the more I look at this. Really solid work and those gems is a nice idea. I'm curious though, how did you paint the black/gunmetal parts? I've worked long and hard to find a good solution for blackened metal but have never been able to find a decent method. Tell me your secrets! ;)

Oh I like this one! I think I can recognise quite a few Tau bits but it's still a very nice conversion.

The 40K stuff does work for a few cool converted models. I have some very nice Large Ships planned with bits and kits from gw. Bandai has some cool bits too

Oh yes, I often use Tau bits in my builds. Of course, the first rule of any scratchbuilder is to never throw anything away so I have a sizeable collection of bits. I suppose the second rule would be to find potential in everything. Who knows, that old saltshaker might make a fine rocket some day.

That's is one killa frisbee!

:D

On the metal thing I just add a little metallic to black paint...

Yup...save most everything!

:)

Nice modifications. I've been looking for slight modification to guns. A bigger gun for Decimator and some guns to mount on the side of the Firspray as shown in some images like the ion cannon and new scum ship image. Do you have any suggestions on what I could buy for this. I do not know much of warhammer or other bit games.

If you have the models a good switch is to trade the YT-2400 guns with the Decorators' guns. IMO the smaller VT-49 guns look better as blaster turrets on the YT. If you trim down the YT heavy cannons lengths they will still look badass on a Decimator.

If you want to go with guns like the ones used on this YT Scum model the Tau blaster cannons are what was used.

Hope that helps you some...

STUNING JOB PAL !!!

Bloody Hell :P

I wasn't expecting all these reply's !

So Firstly, THANK YOU Very much Chaps.

And I apologise for not getting back sooner. I work away a lot and this is the first chance I have had to

browse the Forum again.

Glad you guys like Scum YT.

Had a lot of fun making it, I'm also going to convert Tie Fighters, Y wings, Z95's, Star vipers and B wings in the same colours and Modification style

as the YT for a Horde of Pirates under the Scum & Villainy collection.......My Tie fighters already look a bit Freaky

Show you those later.

Joe Boss,

Thank you my friend,

and that's a good collection of Tau parts you have there !

just think what you could do with that lot :D

And thanks for adding me to your Collection on Google, I will try and get round to joining you on it soon.

Raynuk

The YT is under Heavy Guard of some nasty looking Ties's

good look breaking into the the Pirates ship yard to Steel it :P

Wondergecko

I currently game with it as a standard YT2400 carrying Heavy Blasters with the 4 hit rate, but will soon make a card for it.........as it is the Big Bosses ride !

in 4 games, its never lost yet ;)

De Bad Wolf

Well its like Joe Boss says, the Warhammer stuff has lots of variety and I like the Tau parts as they are simple in design.

unlike the Imperial Hard wear. Eldar weapons also look good in some cases too.

You can actually buy separate weapon sprue's from the Games Workshop website.

also found people selling them on Ebay.

Another source to look at is Gundam and Macross Bandai model Kits, The Mecha kits contain lots of cool looking Hardware.

Big fan of your work by the way :D

As for my gunmetal Paint work on the engines and weapons.

I don't use metallics like silver or gunmetal because the metal flake looks out of scale to such a small model.

after spraying the mat black, I dry brush a dark grey heavily over all of the weapons and engines.

and then with a light grey, a very light dry brush with a fine chisel brush for the high lights.

either with Acrylic or Games Workshop Paints.

I find this method works better for small models.

As the Metallic paint can look to Heavy and draw the eye away from the rest of the paint work.

Hope that helps.

And to Everyone Else......Thank you very much.

I'm Itching to finish my Fanged Tie Fighters at the moment ( inspired by the look of the Star Viper )........just work getting in the way !

but will soon have them up as well.

Take care guys and all the best.

Look forward to seeing what everyone else is building and painting :D

Take care

Barry :)

Cool Barry!

Looks like an Ork gunship without the red paintjob or extra armor bits.

I agree completely with metallic paints on this scale. It has a tendency to not look right. Anyway, I kinda figured you had drybrushed those parts so it's good to have confirmation. I gotta try to replicate the result. Could you perhaps post a picture of the chisel brush you use? I just did a google search and there are tons of shapes and sizes of chisel brushes.

To be honest I don't do much drybrushing nowadays, especially not on flatter surfaces. I prefer other methods of painting that gives me better control when applying the paint. However I should remember not to disregard drybrushing completely, after all it's one many tools available to a painter.

Hello Macross.

You asked about the Brush's I used on the model to Drybrush the Weapons and such.

Here is a Photo of the "Chisel Brush's" that I use,

with sizes from 2 through to 8.

The amount of talent an inspiration on this board is both chilling and invigorating. My god.
