title says it all. At 400 points, I can see a triple vic + 100 points of fighters as a genuinely reasonable fleet.
Has thi made you reconsider your decision to only but one core?

Not until I see Wave 2.
You can make a 4 x-wing team in X-wing, but that's hardly ever done anymore. Wave two will likely add some new ships and upgrades that will make a triple vic team seem less interesting. Even more so after Wave 3, etc.
Very, very good point. I shall resist temptation!
I've invested a ton of money into X-Wing, and there are very few cases where I consistently need more than 1 of any ship. I would expect this game to develop similarly. And with the higher cost of the game, I plan to ensure that I have plenty of fun with only a single version of any given ship or expansion.
Besides, they may follow X-Wing's lead some day and come out with Star Destroyer Aces - a repainted Victory + repainted something else with some new upgrades.
I want massive fleets so I was already getting two cores and the expansions.
I was getting a second core anyway, as I haven't found much interest yet and I thought it would help with the mini-crusade. This makes me like that decision a little more, but what 400 points is REALLY doing is making me rethink wave 1and will definitely shape wave 2 purchases. The fighter packs are absolutely getting reconsidered now - I think I will very much want the possibility to fly more than 2 of the non-core squadrons in a lot of lists.
Nope, going the expansions route.
I grabbed a second core today simply because of the delay and I figure I'm going to use those ships. They're going to be the backbone of my larger fleet. I was stoked to hear about 400pt tournament games so it just made my decision easier ![]()
I'm going to get some games in tomorrow with a single Core Set. Assuming the game ends up being enjoyable (and I have no reason to believe it won't), that's when I'll start placing my Wave 1 orders, and now with the new tournament fleet size, I am strongly considering another Core Set as well.
Reserved three, and I canceled one of those. Only reason I kept two core sets is to have flexibility at the 180 point level, and to be able to run demos galore over the next month before the expansions hit.
There's approximately ten upgrade cards in the starter set that aren't unique, and we know that some, if not all, will be reprinted in the expansions. For example: Overload Pulse, Expanded Hangar Bay, Assault Concussion Missiles, Gunnery Team, and Defense Liaison all come in both the starter set and the Victory Expansion, possibly more overlap.
If you're only concerned with equipping yourself, then the only reason it might make sense to get a second starter is If you're "fighter swarm" inclined. Once we reach the 400 point level, 133 points can come from squadrons. To fill your 133 points as much as possible using generic TIE fighters, you'll need 16 squadrons, 6 of which come in a starter, or 2 squads in the wave 1 expansion pack (along with 2 each of 3 other squad types). So you'll need 3 starters, 2 starters and 2 fighter expansions, or a starter and five fighter expansions to fill the board with TIE Fighters. I think it makes more sense to get the extra options from the expansions, but it all depends on what you're interested in having available to you.
I can always buy a 2nd core set later, if it turns out I need it. For now I will only get one. (TODAY AFTER WORK!)
I have two and it's been a lot more fun thus far playing 300 point games rather than just the learn to play.
nope
still need to play some games before I decide what to buy ![]()
Yes, the 400 point change at wave 2 did push me to buy a 2nd core set. Originally I was going to supplement with Wave 1 expansions but I couldn't resist after the announcement.
I'd be curious to see how many people are running 3 of any Wave 1 ships when the 400 point limit hits...

corvettes count
?
I may well do so with Nebulons depending on how much I enjoy them, and more than likely with Gladiators (imagine 3 gladiators and a victory, what a terrifying sight
!)
Negative Expasnions all the way. What this does confirm is I will eventually pick up an extra GDS more fighters and probably another CR90, Neb-B and MKII. Going to get 4 raiders, and at least 2 ISDs (for even bigger battles) and at least two each of the Moncal shps.
Nope.. maybe later if i feel a need for more X-wings or TIE fighters. But that would be the only real reason to get one over making it with the Expansions.
So thought,
With x-wing i started with more then 1 core box. I cant see how having 2 would be a problem. I just got my starter today and it is amazing looking. Sunday I am going to crack into it and see whats up maybe I am wrong but I am glad I got extra core sets. (seeing there were 27 online fore x-wing its not terrible to pick up 2 or 3) I just know the extra dice and ships are nice. Plus walmart has the core set for 60, which is about the cost of another imp capt, dice and ruler. Initially I was a no. It was very tempting, but I just didn't see myself trying to cram 3 VSDs into a 300 pt list. Plus, you can buy the dice and maneuver tool seperate. I just didn't feel like it was worth it at the price point.
The downside to this conclusion was that I'm likely going to be the primary buyer in my friend group, so we'd be stuck with 1 damage deck unless others bought in and were present.
After opening my core set and playing half a learning game, and then seeing the 400 pt tourney standard, I realized I'll get a lot more use out of a second core.
I'm all in. Buying my second core set today.

I appreciate the help, but my FLGS sells it for $69.99 plus tax. Easy to justify the extra $10 when I'm not paying shipping and I have it right now.
While the Walmart price is good I'll happily pay $10 more to get it shipped right now. Which is what I did with MM.
